Guest guest
Hi , I read your post and wondered if you felt that 90K PPS was needed to hear sound and have great performance with any CI? For the AB product, it may be needed for their device, but for Cochlear (Nucleus) it's not needed with their technology. I think it's exciting for any product to upgrade to technology that is needed to better the ability to hear, but it's only good for that product and does not apply to other technologies for other companies. So when you compare technology of one company next to another, it's a moot point since it's not the same. I've met many users of all brands of CI's through the years and was familiar with CI technology as well. I've found users of all three brands that did not do well with the latest and most current of all processes with what that company has to offer, and that is with having the aptitude of being able to hear well and no problems prior to having the implant. Speed may be important with your device and how it works, but for Cochlear America devices, most people have found that a slower speed works better for them. There may be some relation to the terminology of slower vs faster. We think of slow as well, slow...not up to par, a little behind... fast as speed, progression faster, etc. Again, this is only important to the device and that particular brand. So saying it's a truly profound difference only applies to the implant you have. You and I have had a similar hearing loss history. I wore one aid in my left ear for 23 yrs. My right ear was never aided and that was the ear I had implanted. Our (yours and mine) is on the same scale of 92-93% at 3 months post activation, at the end of 6 months, mine was even higher. One difference is that your ear was aided prior to a CI, mine was not. You wore a hearing aid for 18 yrs in your implanted ear. We both had 0 speech discrimination in our implanted ear. While I prefer ACE 900 speed and find anything over 900 to be totally overwhelming, you are on a fast speed that wouldn't apply to the technology I use at all. I'd imagine if I had the AB implant, I'd probably like the speed you are using with your device. I hope this helps a bit in the explanation you were referring to in your post. It's great when new technology comes around for any product, but does not apply to other products or to say it would be of value to another product if they designed the same with their existing technology. I'm sure if Cochlear Americas felt that having 90K PPS in their technology would help with better hearing, it would already have been designed and in use long, long ago. They are the world leaders in implants and I'm sure they know what they are doing. I'm glad hearing is better with what new technology is available for everyone with every device and let us all hope it continues for each company for more advancement for us all. Dixie one thing that truly sticks out on this chart is AB's 90,000 PPS (Pulses Per Second) VS. Cochlear's 18,182 PPS. Am I missing something here? This is truly a profound difference in technology folks! Royer Advanced Bionics CI
