I forget what age your son will be at the time of his surgery, but the Freedom processor is larger than the 3G by a small amount. I actually think it sits more comfortably on the ear, but I am an adult. What about the body processor? That would seem to be ideal for a small child until such time the Freedom processor fits nicely on his ear. When the Freedom body processor is used, the part of the external headpiece is even smaller than the 3G, plus your son would have all the advantages of the Freedom processor system.
