Guest guest
Hi Dora, thanks for the great post. I'm having MY Freedom mapped tomorrow. Trying to find a date when I could get there, and the audiologist was free, well I've had the Freedom for 3 weeks now, and tomorrow is the day. Your posting made me very excited about having this done. You go girl. Posted by: " dora_weber@... " dora_weber@... Mon Oct 16, 2006 9:25 am (PST) This is for anyone who is uncertain about upgrading from the N24C to the Freedom. I am sure that all of you have heard the adage " If it isn't broke ,don't fix it " .That is exactly how I felt about my N24C-3G.I was hearing remarkably well with it.i was consistantly scoring 100% on sentence tests..in the 70's for words.I thought how in the world could i hear any better with the Freedom.I was also very much afraid that I would never be able to learn to use the button controls.I had used them on my Sprint but i then could see what I was doing. With the Freedom i was sure that I would have take it the processor off my head to change the settings and to see what it was set on..When I saw that there was a 45 day trial period I decided..what the heck..I will order it and see what happens.I watched the DVD twice and read the manual 3times and still I didn't think i could handle it..you see when It comes to technology I am a total clutz. The transcision was made Friday, the 13th .(I am not superstitious)One of the other audiologists sat in to watch and to learn. The comment was made that the switchover was remarkably fast. They were sitting chatting and all of a sudden i was hearing them.My remark was " Oh,my-The sound is so nice. " My audiologist asked me if it was loud enough.I said " sure " and he was very surprised.he said it was.'t on very loud at all.I asked if he was talking in a normal tone and he said he was and the other audiologist assured me that he was.I listened to my husband's voice and his voice also sounded very nice.Then..my audiologist reached for that black hoop...I have always hated that Thing and he knows it.his voice always sounded so muffled .He spoke and WOW!no longer muffled. His voice sounded beautiful and i answered every question. This brought smiles to him!! Then it was on to training me to use the controls. It didn't take long to get the hang of that at all.I will say that it just took hands on practice to do this.I was still sceptical when I left the clinic but my Audiologist assured me that I would be doing it in no time.He was right! On the way home I put a CD in but but it was difficult to hear.It was a very windy day and we were driving against the wind. So,I thought I would try ADRO.I reached up to my N22 and was looking for the buttons.Myron saw this and said, " You won't find any buttons there!! I did find them on the Freedom!!LOL!My first program is plain,2nd is AdRO,3rd Beam and 4th is Whisper.I heard two beaps so knew it was ADRO.That sounded better but I thought i would try Whisper.(I wanted to hear more beeps!!!!)First 3 then 4 and I knew I was on Whisper. That is where i kept it and I was able to enjoy the music very much. I have not needed to change the Volume and Sen. settings but I have been playing with those buttons too.The T-coil is pretty cool...push both sides down.I have tried the phone with and without the T-coil.I can hear very well without it but the voices are richer sounding when using the TcoilAnd..oh,yes.I have turned the closed captioning off on the TV.I realized that when watching I was not reading along. This is getting to be even longer than Camilles and Carol's posts so I will wind down..for now. Boy,Am I thankful that I decided to try the Freedom upgrade.!!!Cochlear Americas WILL NOT GET IT BACK! To summarize : I have heard the sound described as sharp and crisp.I call it Rich! The Freedom contains high degree qualitities that are pleasing to the sense of hearing.--sound is full ,satisfing and pleasing to my ear.Not only that ..I hear more sounds..like the furnace kicking in and the sound of the air flowing through the vents, the fridge, clocks ticking. And like Carol.being able to hear other's conversations. We were out to dinner last night..I was able to hear the waiter at another table ask the patron what kind of dressing she wanted and her answer " french..on the side! " I thank Cochlear from the bottom of my heart for fullfilling their Motto.Hear Now and Always! This is my 3rd upgrade..each was better than the last--they did a wonderful job with the Freedom! Now bring on the upgrade for the N22!!
