Guest guest
It is the same way with my tinnitus - I never know what I'm gonna get! But if you're really worried or you have any pain then you should ask a medical professional.
Guest guest
Deb, I get new sounds too a lot, and they come and go as they please, just like teenagers. Its hard to attribute thios to any one thing. It could be your diet, the climate, stress, whonose. For the most part, I can ignore the tinnitus and have not experienced any raging loud sounds. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* Therapy is expensive. Popping bubble wrap is cheap. Guest guest
Hi , Yeah that makes a lot of sense. I forgot to mention in my email that my audie asked my surgeon about it and he basically said it's not unusual for the first couple of years or even more to get random inexplicable sounds. He theorized that it's part of the auditory systems adjustment to the whole process, the technology, being stimulated, etc. You don't suppose my cafe au lait has anything to do with it do you? LOL Thanks. Deb --- <rclark0276@...> wrote: > Deb, > I get new sounds too a lot, and they come and go > as they please, just > like teenagers. Its hard to attribute thios to any > one thing. Guest guest
Deb, A couple years? Hmmmm. Its been 6 for me. LOL And ues its probably your cafe au laits. How many a day do you drink? I love my mochas and cant get less than 3 a week mminimum. But when I drank coffee daily, I had more raging sounds plus headaches. So I went to decaf and now mochas. I am perfectly happy with this. LOL Also, I drink some tea when I dont have a mocha. Most of the time I get high tones that are easy to ignore when there is some ambient sound present. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* Why do we want intelligent terminals when there are so many stupid users? & Dreamer Doll (Guide Dawggie) Newport, Oregon N24C 3G 8/2000 Hookup rclark0276@... http://webpages.charter.net/dog_guide/
Guest guest
Since my implant and activation I've occasionally experience a sound similar to what you describe, Deborah. It's unlike my previous tinnitus and unlike the ongoing tinnitus in my unimplanted (deaf) ear. It hasn't happened for some time now but was a bit disconcerting when it did. For me it was a pretty loud hum. Guest guest
Thanks ! I completely forgot to mention that I did talk to my audie about it a couple of months ago, and he asked the surgeon and the surgeon said he couldn't say what it was but most likely just part of the rehab process, that he hears about these experiences often. It is just such a different sound than anything I've had all my life, I thought I'd toss it out there for the forum in case anyone had an explanation. Thanks! Guest guest
Hi ! LOL actually I don't have those au laits more than once a while. I do have a very small cuppa joe a few days a week but I don't take a lot of caffeine. Worth experimenting without, perhaps! OK so if it's 6 years, the word on the street may as well be " always " with regard to funny head noises post implant! Thanks! Deb --- <rclark0276@...> wrote: > Deb, > A couple years? Hmmmm. Guest guest
I too, am getting the very loud humming. It can be in either ear and at any time. Its a PITA and is hard to ignore :-). At the moment I have it in my unimplanted ear. I am getting mapped and also seeing my surgeeon today. I'll try and remember to mention it, to see what he says. Guest guest
I asked him if anything that I ate or drank could be contributing to the tinnitus and he said no. He said anti-inflamatory medications and aspirin could cause problems. He said that tinnitus didnt discriminate, some people get it and some people dont. I think he said that Gingko could help?? The audi turned two of my 22 electrodes off today, because they were shorting. I had previously had a problem with about 5 of them being non-compliant? This was what was leading me towards wanting to try a different speed map. We didnt go that way yet, I had a new 2400 map made, but this time in ACE instead of Hi-ACE. I made tremendous progress in the first 2 months, then I sensed that something had happened. I felt as though I had plateaued and wasnt improving any more. I think what had actually happened was that I had lost some clarity, but I didnt know how to explain it at the time. That was the begining of August. I decided to stay with the 2400 in Hi-ACE for the time being, but knew that it was likely that I would have to make a change, so I was prepared to do it sooner rather than later. Then since that last mapping, I have experienced problems hearing people that I dont normally have a problem with, so I felt that things were getting worse. Then when the audie tested the 22 electrodes, she had to turn two of them off because of the shorting, so that might explain my lack of progress over the past month. I know that other people here, have had electrodes turned off for various reasons, does it have much effect on ones overall progress? Guest guest
Deb. This also had me worried. I had a different sound and feel with my bad ear after the surgery. (I had both ears done at the same time.) Sometimes, even before hookup, I could feel it in the bone behind my ear when I would " hear tinnitus " . It's hard to explain but I told my audi it sounded like a bird was pecking on the bone and making the sound because I could also feel it and it was different and louder than I'd had before. Now after 3 1/2 years I still hear it but not as often. It gets worse when my allergies kick in. Glad to know I am not the only one hearing new sounds when the processors are off. Sharon Myers Bilateral CI user ******************* Thanks ! Thanks! Guest guest
I see! That pecking sound would've had me worried too, as did (does?) my new weirdo sound. But they say it's normal to have a lot of new weird sounds, so we deal. :-) I too am glad to know I'm not the only one! Be well.
