Guest guest
Hey! I wanted to give you an update about a video that I always keep a copy of in my own home! I have allowed other HoH people to borrow it many times. It says very succinctly, everything I wish I could share with my friends and family who are hearing. My friend, Gael Hannan, has just updated the video in that it is now open captioned and comes with a study guide. I will cut and paste the information below. I highly recommend this video! Hearing Loss Video Now Available with Open-Captions And Study Guide Toronto – March 15, 2005: Unheard Voices is a groundbreaking video that takes a dramatic look at the impact of hearing loss on people's lives. Previously available only in closed-captioned format (captions can be turned on and off), the video is now also available in open-captioned format, with captions permanently on the screen. In addition, Unheard Voices now includes a study guide that helps viewers identify and discuss how hearing loss affects them and those with whom they communicate. Through a series of dramatic and humorous vignettes, Unheard Voices opens a rare window of understanding into the lives of people of all ages who deal with the often-overwhelming challenges of frayed communication. Gael Hannan, an actor with a severe-to-profound hearing loss, gives a powerful performance in this video adaptation of her one-woman play created with writer Dalene Flannigan. Hearing loss is on the rise, affecting upwards of 2 in 10 people. But expressing the personal impact of hearing loss is extremely difficult for most people, and since 2003, Unheard Voices has given thousands of people a clearer vision of hearing loss and a more articulate voice to discuss its impact. The video is used in family situations, privately, group discussions and included in university curriculums around North America. The short study guide summarizes the video's key issues and poses questions for personal consideration or discussion with family and/or groups. It is also useful for hearing healthcare professionals and organizations seeking to better understand hearing loss and its far-reaching effects. " The people in Unheard Voices make us laugh and cry because they are real, " says Hannan, " Through actual life experiences, we wanted to capture the emotional truth of hearing loss, in all its humour and pain, to offer a deeper understanding than is usually available from materials covering the more technical aspects of hearing technology and coping skills. " Unheard Voices will benefit anyone affected by hearing loss. The 23- minute video is available for $24.99 plus applicable tax and shipping from Gael Hannan, or from the following hearing loss organizations: Self Help for Hard of Hearing People, Canadian Hearing Society, Communications, the HearingExchange and eo Productions. Gael Hannan is a renowned presenter and writer who covers hearing loss issues with insightful passion and humour.
