If you've got the 3-G or the Sprint, Cochlear will send insurance info about

a month before the warranty expires. I paid $800 to cover two for two

years. It doesn't cover loss or being run over by a truck but it does cover

not

working. Soon as I paid, my telecoil went bad and I got a refurbished

replacement.

Hi,

I dont know your age, but if you are a senior, then I

believe medicare takes care if it gives problems.

That is what they said at the hospital. You can get

it confirmed.

Good after this is for ................

You said Medicare pays for 80% of the cost of the batteries.....how

do you go about getting information on that.

Thank you as you can tell I'm new to this, this is my frist time

here.

I've just had my implant on Feb 24th and my hook up is Monday March

27th. Thank you Patsy

I have yet to see this reimbursement when purchasing through Cochlear Corp.

Cochlear Corp has been trying for over a year to get me reimbursement for

several $100+ sets of batteries, plus dri and store brix, plus several other

things I've purchased in the past 18 months. I got one check from Medicare for

$12 and that was it.

Best to check with others before you plan on this $$ coming back to you.

Do you mean the kind of insurance that would cover your CI if you lost it or

anything happened to it or it malfunctioned? The kind that covers beyond the

warranty? Let me know if you find some.

Thanks!

I am going on three wonderful years with my CI. The warrenty for

Cochlear is 3 years, and that time is running out. I was wondering if

anyone knows of insurance that I can get for my CI.

Thank you,

Hi Pam. Just a note regarding the Dri-Briks. I mentioned to my Audie at Kaiser

that I needed some. She wasn't sure if it was covered by my Senior Advantage,

but referred me to a website www.hearingplanet.com . I bought 4 of them for

$11.60. At that price, I really don't care whether they are covered or not! If

she finds they are covered, I'll buy them thru Kaiser next time. Four will last

me a year or more.

Pam,

Call Medicare and ask if Coclear Corp is filing your claim for the

charges under durable medical supplies. If they are filing just as

medical supplies - Medicare will not cover them. Get Cochlear Corp.

to refile the claim showing that the charges are for durable medical

supplies.

Patsy,

Order your batteries thru Cochlear and if you do it online, you will

need to download a form to fill out and mail to Cochlear. Yes you do have

to pay up front and them wait for the reimbursement from Medicare. It will

take time, I am still waiting for my reimbursement from my order in January.

Thanks Roxie,

Sorry, I really can't call anyone yet. That is and hear them clearly.. lol! I

do know how to dial a phone but so far don't do very well trying to understand

the person on the other end when they answer.

I've emailed and emailed and keep getting told the claim has been filed with the

correct terminology yet nothing comes in the mail and it's been more than a year

now. I know it should be faster than that.

Hi Pam,

If you can not call Medicare - at one time you should have received

a Medicare Summary Notice, I believe you said you received $12.00

for a refund for something. Ok, if Cochlear Corp filed your claim

correctly it should show on the Medicare Summary Notice why payment

was denied or paid. On the Medicare Summary Notice there will be a

Customer Service Information area with the mailng address you need

to send them a letter. Just tell them what has happened and you want

to be reimbursed for the charges and you do not know how Cochlear

Corp. is handling your claim for durable medical equipment and you

are unable to communicate by phone.

Someone mentioned on the other forum that there is a relay service

that is free on the internet it is www.i711.com you might be able to

use this service to contact Medicare. You can read about it on

their website. Check out the relay service it might be very useful

to you. I did not know until yesterday that they had any such thing

on the internet. Tried it and it works.

If you are a Medicare receipient Medicare will pay 80% of repairs

and for durable medical equipment.

I do not know if this will be of use to you about the phone. When I

try to use the phone including my cell, just using the t-mic

everyone I talk to I can just barely hear. If I put my t-coil on I

can talk forever. With me there is a 95% improvement with the phone

using the t-coil. I am in a study and certain guidelines are set

for my mapping - this might have something to do with the difference

between the t-mic and the t-coil.

Hope this will be of some help to you.

Thanks Roxie,

The medicare summary note that came in the mail with the $12 said the " rest of

the claim was denied " because it was a " duplicate claim " . I contacted Cochlear

immediately and they said that was a mistake and they would resubmit. That was

last Fall and I've heard nothing since. I think my particular ss number must

have been turned over to 4th grade students or something.. thus got totally

fouled up.

As for using the relay to call any big insurance company (CMS is huge!) I

haven't found the relay useful. One starts out with high hopes and dials the

number but then with all the push botton stuff you have to go thru ( " if this

call is about a claim press 1, if this call is about medications press 2, if

this call is about long term care press 3 " etc etc) by the time the relay

operator reads all the options we've missed the window of opportunity and have

to dial in again. We might press the right number this time only to hear three

rings and then be greeted by 10 new choices at the other end so have to dial in

again and on and on til a person's day is spent or you have a terrific neck

ache. lol!

Can you tell I hate the relay?? lmao! BUT, that said I will keep your advice

in mind and consider it. I appreciate the time you spent helping me.

Pam,

Dunno if this will work, but call the main number, connect to the main

contact and once you get a live human, insist that you not be put on hold or

anything. Yeah I hate those freaking menu systems too.
