Guest guest
, when did this start? I have never heard of people knowing sign at GDB. Is this something new? Good for them if they are continuing to look at new things. Re: Hearing dogs > , > GDB has instructorrs who know sign as well as O & M training. Guest guest
>> The Oregon campus is just outside of Portland, we will come hang out. LOL<< , LOL! If I decide to go to GDB for my next dog, you'll be the first to know! <smile> I'm happy to report that Tigger is still doing really well even at 9 years of age. Many people are surprised when I tell them how old she is because she doesn't act her age. LOL! Guest guest
Tina, I'd like to know that too. I just checked GDB's website and there is no mention of a program for deafblind students or of trainers on staff who know sign. Perhaps GDB recently added trainers on staff who can sign. If this is the case, it would be great if they could add this information to their website. Guest guest
Tina, GDB does not have a deafblind program. But some if not many of the instructors have taken sign language courses. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* Blessed are we who can laugh at ourselves, for we shall never cease to be amused. & Gimlet (Guide Dawggie) Newport, Oregon N24C 3G 8/2000 Hookup rclark0276@... Guest guest
, Had a sort of followup today before leaving the romp. Gimlet is still looking great. So I am not gonna stop working her just yet. Guest guest
, Were you having concerns about Gimlet?
Guest guest
, Gimlet is now 9 and I am having to adjust to that and slow down a bit with her. I am have to retire her at some point but after talking with a GDB rep yesterday, Gimlet is fine. When thinking about a new dog, I thought it would be a good idea to teach that dog some hearing dog skils. I may contact Dogs for the Deaf and see if I cant get some ideas on the training. I want to visit them, they're several hours south, be fun. Since Gimlet is going to keep working, I will try simple tasks first. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* Ambition is a poor excuse for not having enough sense to be lazy. -- & Gimlet (Guide Dawggie) Newport, Oregon N24C 3G 8/2000 Hookup rclark0276@... Guest guest
, I'm glad Gimlet is still working well at her age. Tigger is also doing great. The only problem I have with Tigger is her tendency to slow down considerably in the heat. She'll often take two steps, stop, take two more steps and stop until we eventually reach our destination. Sometimes it takes alot of encouragement on my part to get her moving fast enough so that I can follow her movements in harness. I also find myself having to take frequent breaks (which isn't a bad thing for either of us!) so that Tigger can regain her energy. Fortunately this is only a problem during the summer months. In the autumn and winter months she loves the cold and walks briskly. Tigger does have arthritis and hip problems, but I haven't been able to determine whether they are bothersome to her during the summer. I'll have to ask her vet about that at her next appointment in July. Guest guest
My goodness, , how do you have the energy to surpass Gimlet?!
Guest guest
, Gimlet and I just simply tolerate one another somehow and we get along famously. I cannot surpass her.
