Guest guest
Hi everyone, I just received a nice e-mail from my audi wishing me all the best for surgery. Between her message and all of the wonderful e-mails you've sent over the past several days, you all helped make a difficult time in my life very special. Thank you so much!! Guest guest
Hi , Good luck! It's such an exciting time and just think, you'll have much to look forward to in the New Year. My surgery was pretty smooth as recovery was easier than having a bad flu. (I did take a Vicodin to help me sleep and it caused me to puke my brains out so if you can avoid the pain meds, you might not get sick at all, I think that is what messes people up) Make sure to get rested the day before and keep us posted Cheers, > Hi everyone, > > I just received a nice e-mail from my audi wishing me all the best for > surgery. Guest guest
I know....its going too fast. My oldest girl just passed her exam for drivers training, and last night went to her first big formal dance (with a boy:). But Im really proud of both of them for having such big dreams and aspirations. Savannah says she wants to become a nurse and work with kids, bc she already knows what helps and whats really, really irritating that nurses do:) lol and she thinks bc of her experience, she can be helpful to kids in her situations. valarie mom to 3 w/cvid > > > > Last week, I went with my oldest daughter to the area skills center for an open house, as she plans to take medical career foundations classes there for her junior year, followed by the nursing program her senior year. > > My second daughter is 14, and has CVID, so she does not recieve vaccinations. Guest guest
Savannah reacts to vaccines, and the reactions have gotten progressively worse. The last time she had a vaccination, her arm tripled in size, she spiked a temp of 105 for a week, it was awful. After that, her ID dr. said no more vaccines for her. Its sad that this stupid thing she has no control over affects her life in so many ways. valarie mom to 3 w/cvid > > > ** > > > > > > Last week, I went with my oldest daughter to the area skills center for an > > open house, as she plans to take medical career foundations classes there > > for her junior year, followed by the nursing program her senior year. > > My second daughter is 14, and has CVID, so she does not recieve > > vaccinations. Guest guest
I am an RN as well and I think there is another way around it. She gets immunity through her Gamma so she should be able to do titers and see where she is in the level of immunity. If she does not respond then she does not respond. I have had some other medical issues and was told I could not go to nursing school but I kept at it and ended up having help from Vocational Rehab and finished the program. If it is her dream there are ways around it as long as she is on her infusions she should be safe to work and she may want to choose a field that there are not too many chronic infections to deal with. I could not stand for long periods so chose NICU and it worked well for me to work my way up to see what I could do. NEVER GIVE UP A DREAM! I work in administration outside the hospital so there is NO ISSUE> Barbie From: osdbmom@... Guest guest
, I want to share my experience in the medical profession. I worked as a physical therapist, both in the hospital and in an outpatient setting. I have PIDD. When it came time to discuss vaccinations, the only vaccination questioned was DPT and Hepatitis. rather than getting vaccinated, I simply had them test titers. Your children are getting immunoglobin and this should be sufficient to show titers to avoid a problem. I would not let them believe that their future is defined by their PIDD. The world is there for them to reach for and fill their dreams. There are many, many people in the medical field that live with PIDD. although it is nice to discuss this now, I would not get to upset bout because I truly believe it will not be a problem. It would absolutely be descriminatory to prevent them from pursuing their aspirations in veterinary medicine or nursing. Guest guest
I wish there was an IG Living that covered teen related issues like this....stuff we need to deal with as the " little kids " are getting older. I feel like there is a lot of help/support with the little ones, but with teens there are so many issues that need to be discussed with these kids BEFORE it becomes a huge issue. Things like...would a teen pregnancy be more problematic for a cvid kid? What about an STD? Tattoos? Gaging body parts? Street drugs and possible counteractions with script meds? Jobs and their legal rights? How to support them in college, if they move away? I know there are the conferences, but not everyone is able to drive, get away, or afford to go. And if there were a magazine dedicated to teens/young adults, we could sock old issues away, and pull them back out when the issue crops up. My 14 yr old CVID kid is one of those teens who will not believe something just bc I tell her its true...if its in print, or another kids story I could show her, she'd be more liable to take it for truth. valarie mom to 3 w/cvid > > > > Last week, I went with my oldest daughter to the area skills center for an open house, as she plans to take medical career foundations classes there for her junior year, followed by the nursing program her senior year. > > My second daughter is 14, and has CVID, so she does not recieve vaccinations. Guest guest
This is good to hear:) She wants to work with kids and babies. She feels like her life experiences have taught her so much that she would be able to do a really good job at this. And, I know, she's 14 and has plenty of time to change her mind. I'd like to see both girls take advantage of the skills center program (there is so much they can do there. so many opportunities). If they take the nursing program, by the end of their senior year of high school, they have almost a years worth of transferable college credits, time spent at three local hospitals plus nursing homes, and a multitude of scholarships available....and the only thing I have to pay for is their scrubs! its really neat. valarie mom to 3 w/cvid > > > > Last week, I went with my oldest daughter to the area skills center for an open house, as she plans to take medical career foundations classes there for her junior year, followed by the nursing program her senior year. > > My second daughter is 14, and has CVID, so she does not recieve vaccinations.
