I have no idea why as I have had many many surgeries,, I think that it is something that is scaring me with having it on my head, I know that everything will be fine. But goodness am I a wreck. Fingers crossed and good thoughts requested as I try to enter the hearing world... Is there an easy way to get from today to Friday without loosing my mind??? Many thanks for all your help. Guest guest
Hi Gilad, Don't ever be sorry about asking a question, that is what the forums are all about, and that is a very good question. I can't (nor can anyone in my opinion) be definite about recovery time or time to activation, it depends on the person and the CI Team, there are many variables and some surgeon's and Audi's are more conservative than others. I see more people are being activated sooner now, at one time 6 weeks post surgery was common, but now many are activated in under 10 days. I have never seen any difference quoted between brand of implant, it is most often the Audi, surgeon or even the patient who will make the final decision on the activation date. As far as time to heal, again that depends on the person, not the implant, I can't find any reference that states patients heal faster when implanted with one brand over another. Guest guest
Dear Mike, Thank you so much for answering and understanding. I guess the forums are exactly for this purpose, supporting each other and sharing experiences. I really am glad to have joined the forum. There are wonderful people here. I went to the surgeon today with the CT scan and was approved for the surgery. Now I just have to wait for the approval of the state insurance company and will then be able to get a date for the surgery. Hope it'll be quickly. I'm hoping to be implanted during Passover, since we have a 4-week vacation from school. I have chosen the Advanced Bionics HiRes implant; I just felt it's the right thing for me. I hope it will be the right decision and everything will work out well. Thank you again for the quick answer and friendliness. Its wonderful to get this support on the forum... I wish you and all members the best and will continue to update about the surgery. Guest guest
, Take some deep breathes and try to relax. This is really a piece of cake. I'm sure you will be fine. Just remember your surgeon would not even suggest it if he didn't think you would do well with the surgery. They do not like failures and law suits so just look at it as something you are doing to be able to hear again. I have no doubt but what you will do well. Guest guest
Hi , Your message posted to the forum. Usually when they say you are bouncing that means your inbox is full and any new messages coming into your in box are bounced because there is no room for them. Check and see if you need to clean out your in box. Friday will come and go before you know it. Just try to relax and not worry. This is one very emotional journey, but it is well worth the trip. We are all pulling for you. Best regards, Jim > > Well, folks. For some reason I cannot post on the site,, Keeps telling me I > am bouncing,,Whatever that may mean.. Maybe thats why I am so tired.. Guest guest
Hi ! This is an exciting time for you and everyone close to you! I remember very well how nervous I was both before my operation and my activation. It's also quite an emotional journey and one that I am very glad I took! Hmmm, you asked how to pass the time until Friday without losing your mind. How about filling up your time with things you love to do? That's what I did. Good luck to you on Friday! May your surgery be a success and your recovery a smooth one. Be sure to pace yourself for a good week or two after the surgery. Let your family or friends spoil you during this time. Be sure to post and let us know how it's going for you when you are up to typing. Good luck to you! Patti Surgery Day 11/25/02 (What A Day!) Guest guest
Gilad, Congratulations on your approval. Hopefully your insurance won't drag out the process. I have an HMO, and everybody works for the HMO, the surgeon, the CI center audies, so I didn't have an approval problem, but I know that insurance companies can be a pain. Congratulations on choosing the AB 90k. I think you'll love it, I certainly do.
