I have that same problem with my sensitiviy dial and even when I take

it off the red dot to indicate where the dial is is so small I need a

magnifying glass to see it. (my eyes are not that great) I have the

MedEl Combi40+ and I try to keep the dial at around 3 " oclock. I also

have the problem of it not always staying set there.

I too, have Med-El; and have been since Sept 2001. But had failure 5

mths ago; so meant had re-implant from Combi C40+ to Pulsar CI

100........have just been upgraded to the OPUS2 BTE 3 wks ago. This

meant switch free processor (except on/off 'flap') the rest is all on

the remote control - 4 progs, vol, sens (both with up/down), T-coil -

first for Med-El processors.........makes it so much easier - there

are now beeps which only you can hear + red light when changing

prog/setting (which can be switched off by CI audiologist) - but all

on a credit card size controls.....much easier to see/view without

having to take the processor off.

3 wks on, although am having few probs with the levels - prehaps cos

I've had a failure then upgraded - meant my mapping levels are all

over the place.....but despite this I'd not want to go back to the

Tempo+ again - so much more comfy and v much liek a HA!!

Judy,

I am blind and set the processors without sight. When you first press one of

the rocker buttons, it activates the processor into motion. The second press

of the same button either sets it into volume mode or sensitivity mode. If

you want volume, you hold the button til you hear a beep. With the

sensitivity you simply press without any holding of the button. So volume

requires a longer hold than the sensitivity. Then you press a third time to

either increase or decrease the volume or sensitivity.

Judy,

described it very well. Patience. Do you find you need to change

volume often? Perahps you can have the audi reset the volume and you wont

need to fight with it.

Hi Judy,

I was finding it a royal pain to take my processor off to look at

while changing sensitivity level every time I needed to listen my car

radio or talk on my phone. So I had my audi make a custom program on

one of my slots just for that. Much easier for me that way. So if you

have an empty slot, create your own program :)

Thanks, everyone, for your helpful hints.

And , to answer your question, no, I don't need to change my volume often

at all. But

there's so much talk about changing sensitivity and volume, I realized I was

being a bit lazy

by not using my options more often and experimenting.

Hi Alison,

Is the new Med-el you have shaped like a hearing aid? Because I just

saw the mock up for it this weekend. And figured it was about time the

company started making better looking BTEs.

This uses a remote control to change the settings? Can you also

change them by hand? Because I'd lose the remote for sure. Does the

remote use batteries, or have to be recharged. We need DETAILS here.

Thanks.

, just so you know, I was activated February 6, 2006 so I'm not exactly

new at this. I

thought it was past time that I experimented more than I've been doing to get

the best

results possible.

Hi

Yes the new Med-El processor - OPUS is shaped and fits behind the ear

like a HA - before with the Tempo+ it was right angled and had a

hook - this new one sits further/lower behind the ear - much more

comfy.

All switches - progs, sens, vols, T coil etc are on the remote -

theres only a 'flap' which is the on/off switch..........so you're

right if i lose the remote - which I hope I won't!! then thats it!

I'll be stuck!! I am put off by the remote - much prefer the switches

to be on the processor - but it is much more comfy - wouldn't go back

to the Tempo+ at all.

There are 4 buttons - 1 for each prog, each prog = up/down for vol +

sens. Then theres a row of 3 buttons - T (T coil), M/T - mix of

microphone + telicol and M - mic only..........

The remote - called FineTuner is powered by batts - there is a batt

inside not sure how long it lasts - but I presume quite a

while.......batt - there is one; like size of the watch batt. The

upgrade kit came with a Med-El screwdriver - took me ages to work out

WHY would I need a screwdriver?!? Then its to change the bstts.

As far as I know its not rechargable - otherwise I'd be given more,

and prob would've had to change it by now..........and bottom row is

for bilateral users - ie one remote control for 2 processors.......

I think its all new for Med-El hence no ideas.........

Hope this helps!

Have al ook on the Med-El site for more info, theres even pics -

using the latest software....so its all v different and taking me

longer to get used to everything..........

Hi Alison,

thanks for the info. The MED-EL rep was here in town last week, and

showed me the model for the BTE processor. Sopuns like it's already been

approved for release in the UK. Looking at a fall 07 release in the US

pending FDA approval.

thanks for the info.

FYI - if anyone who uses Med-El, or who is researching different brands, has any

questions on the OPUS 2, Hayley has had hers since December and I'm quite

familiar with it now.....I'd be happy to answer questions, or tell you about our

experience with it:)
