Okay, here's the scoop.

I went to Charlotte, NC to the Eye, EAr, Nose and Throat Clinic. Boy, is it big!

But the drive is not bad as it is not in downtown Charlotte.

I met with one of the two audiologists that work with adults CI patients. I have

an appt for Monday to go back to meet with one of the surgeons (they have

three). I was very impressed with the audiologist and her knowledge and

experience. I've decided to not go back to Columbia as their receptionists and

such were so disorganized and this place is just top notch all the way.

They don't require a speech and language assessment. I have an appt on March 3rd

with the audiologist for a hearing test and I have to make one with the

psychologist for hearing impaired folks. This is standard protocol at CI

centers.

Oh, and yesterday I met with the local ENT dr and he wrote a letter of

predetermination that the insurance company needs. I'll be calling the insurance

so next week to see what they have to say. And I also met with Carol Jonas, the

audiologist that used to work at SCSDB. Her dept is able to do the balance test

so I'll have that done here on the 21st rather than have to drive to Columbia or

Charlotte for that.

I feel relieved that I liked this place and that I am not going to go back to

Columbia. I liked the surgeon there but I'll only see him twice and the rest of

the time I'll have to go to this dingy building with no class at all compared to

topnotch center in Charlotte. They also have been doing Cochlear implants for 20

years. Not sure how long they have been doing them in Columbia. I know

ton has been doing them for a long time but that's too far to drive when

there is a good CI closer to home.

I'll keep you all informed as I learn more.
