Guest guest
Hi Patty, People with typical hearing have to learn to hear in noise. People with CIs also must learn to hear in noise. Part of our problem is we tend to listen a lot harder as we lose our hearing, because we are afraid of missing something. Then when we get the CI we have to learn what we can ignore as well as what we should pay attention to. This " filtering " process is more of a brain function than a sound processor function. AV therapy can help with the process. There are certain features on the Freedom processor that also help, but I think the big thing is how you listen, and how your brain does the filtering. Because when babies are born, they hear everything, and as they grow they learn what to pay attention to and what to ignore. We have to relearn that. Time span between implant surgery and first activation depends on the clinic. When I was implanted 9 years ago, it was a month, to allow for the swelling to go down. Some people get it after 3 weeks, some after 2. Depends on the clinic. Generally when they set a surgery date, they will also set a turn on date. The Original Posted by: " P A SARCHI " psarchi@... Also approx. how long a time lapse from implant to activation and why the time lapse? Thank you, Patty
