Guest guest
Hi , I think my father has done what you are mentioning below. He showed me the other day how his implant can change programs and stores other ones that he can swich to. However, when you go into the audiologist, what procedue is it when she/he hooks you up to the computer and it usuallly takes a long time to complete. When he went in for that, is when this whole thing changed for him. Did you have similar results. How long have you had your cochlear implant? Are you happy with it? Can you hear someone speak without reading their lips or looking directly at them? These are all things I would love for my dad to do, especially because I am getting married in March 2007 and I would love more than anything for him to hear my vows and the music and everything there. It would be a dream! > > Your father can request to have his better, previous MAP put back on his > processor as one program, along witht other MAPs put in the other program > slots. Guest guest
Yes, it has happened to me when a new MAP did not work for me. Sometimes through continued practiced I came to better discriminate sounds and speech. Other times I never could adjust and that MAP was scrapped. But, it is a good idea to keep the previous MAP you benefited from on one of the program slots to fall back on. Your father has not been on the CI that long and progress will vary with people. I have had my first CI for 6 years and the second CI for almost 1 year. It took a number of months before I could discriminate with the first and I understood right away with the second. I am blind and cannot lipread. If your father has benefited once, chances are he will again, and he may be in relatively good form come your wedding, though it may not be perfect.
