Guest guest
Oprah interviewed a teen who has a gift for echo location. He says his echo location works so well he has no need of a cane. He had developed cancer of both eyes and they were removed. One interesting point is when he was coming on stage, Oprah told the audience not to clap because he needed the quietness to do the echo location and find Oprah. SO, what does he do in noise? Guest guest
, Good question! The teen you're referring to is Ben Underwood. In my opinion, no matter how good his skills are at being able to use echolocation, he'll need to use a cane at some point in time. How will drivers and other pedestrians know he is totally blind? I can see Ben making a street crossing with a car making a right hand turn in front of him. Yikes! Inasmuch as I admire his talent, I think I'll stick to using my guide dog or cane. LOL! By the way, Ben has made quite a name for himself. If you do a Google search for the name " Ben Underwood, " you'll find all kinds of articles about him. I wonder what O & M instructors think of Ben's refusal to use a cane?
