Guest guest
, Plug the mic into that small adaptor plug then plug that into the base of the 3G. Then power off and back on again. To test, just put a finger over the end of the mic. It will totally deaden sound. As to mode, either Mic or Whisper will work. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* I'm in shape ... round's a shape isn't it? & Gimlet (Guide Dawggie) Newport, Oregon N24C 3G 8/2000 Hookup rclark0276@... Guest guest
, To use the ext. mic or any cable with the 3G you must turn the processor off then back on after you plug it in. If you are hearing anything with the mic. plugged in then it should be working as it shuts off the mic. on your 3g when you plug it in just like it does with the ext. t-coil plugged in. You can have a mix between the 3g mic and whatever you are listening to when useing the FM cable, TV/hifi cable or personal Audio cable. I got to see the horshoe crabs the other day at Syracuse University. When I have time I will chat with the professor's or student's that are working on this research and see where they stand with reguards to making breakthru's with restoring vision. Guest guest
Hi Evel, I just tried the mic and can definitely hear sound. However, I can't tell what direction it's coming from and it doesn't sound any different than listening through my CI only. My audi has my T-coil set at 100%. Might that have something to do with how sounds are coming through? A few minutes ago I played a radio with jazz music on my left side and the TV with dialogue on my right side. I could hear the radio just fine, but not the TV. Perhaps I'm not used to the way I should be hearing this with the external microphone -- because it doesn't sound anything like what I remember when using a unidirectional mic with my FM system. I'm not sure why...perhaps it's just a difference in the way sounds are processed through my CI? I'll have to ask my audi about that next week. Let me know how the research at Syracuse is coming along. With any luck, vision restoration will become a reality. I know many people like myself who were born blind or visually impaired due to retinal diseases will appreciate any advancements that are made in this area! Where does the microphone plug into the small adaptor? I plugged the microphone (without an adaptor) to the bottom of the 3G and turned it on. Obviously I'm doing something wrong, but don't understand *what*. Guess I'm having an " off " day today. Guest guest
, Its a small plug that goes into the base of the 3G. Everything has to plug into that even tho the ext mic can plug straight in. The adaptor plug has the same connector on one end as does the ext mic. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* Complex problems have simple, easy to understand wrong answers. & Gimlet (Guide Dawggie) Newport, Oregon N24C 3G 8/2000 Hookup rclark0276@... Guest guest
, Okay, now that I know I've plugged it in correctly....I don't hear *any* muting of sound when I place my finger over the microphone. I'm beginning to think I might have a defective mic. Guest guest
, Did you power off the 3G then on again? Must do this any time you plug an accessory in or the 3G wont know its there.. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* Happiness is merely the remission of pain. & Gimlet (Guide Dawggie) Newport, Oregon N24C 3G 8/2000 Hookup rclark0276@... Guest guest
>> Did you power off the 3G then on again?<< , Yes. I hear sound when the mic is plugged in, so it's working. I'm just not hearing any directionality or volume difference (nor the muffed sound you referred to in an earlier post). Guest guest
, Oh ok. Go outside and try it. Find some birds. If there is traffic nearby, and you aim the mic at the birds, you will notice the difference then when using the built in mic. Then get a mocha.
