Guest guest
, Congratulations! I knew you would do a contractor's job in installing these chimes! Kudos! Now you tell me what Westminster chimes sound like? Do they sound like Big Ben? I'm asking before I go wikipeding. Guest guest
, I'm glad the wireless doorbell is working out well for you! I've had my wireless Westminster chime doorbell for the past 2 years and I love it! In fact, I've thought about purchasing a spare in case the first one bites the dust. Thankfully, I'm not required to pray every time it goes off. LOL! Guest guest
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westminster_Quarters I had no idea! I wikipedied (wikipediaed?) and found out. Interesting section on Westminster chimes! We deaf people have NO idea! I shall sally forth and get my own Westminster chiming clock! (Psst, anyone have any recommendations? A new clock would be a terrific auditory training for a new CI user!) Guest guest
I *love* to collect chime clocks (Westminster and melody)! In fact, I have over 20 of them in my collection! You can find them by doing a Google search for " Westminster chime clock " or " chime clock. " There are so many different varieties that it would be difficult to make recommendations. Some chime clocks sound the Westminster chime every quarter hour, every half-hour and/or every hour (followed by an hourly strike -- for example, 3 strikes for 3 o'clock). Some Westminster chimes have a rich, deep sound while others are high pitched and tinny. Clocks also vary in the speed at which the chimes are played. Some chime clocks play the Westminster chime rather quickly (barely a second between each note) while others have a brief pause between each note. One of my favorite melody clocks plays the Westminster chime followed by bird chirps (at 6, 7 and 8 o'clock a.m.) or a different melody (9 AM-12 midnight) at the top of each hour. Guest guest
Hi Indeed they ARE the chimes of Big Ben. There is a song that goes with them: Loud ring the bells From the old tower We hear them now Chiming the Hour. It is the chimes that go off before Large Ben bongs the hours. We have a grandfather clock here that has the Westminster chimes. It plays 1/4 of the song each quarter hour and then on the hour you hear the entire thing, plus the correct number of bongs. If you go to any clock store that sells grandfather clocks, they will know the Westminster chimes and can play them for you. Then you can go somewhere else, like WalMart and buy a clock with it for less. Cha ching. Or you can go to Home Depot and play with the doorbells, until you see the one that says, " Plays Westminster chimes " Good luck with the Westminster chimes, and thanks for the compliment about being a contractor. While I can fix sewing machines and vaccuum cleaners, I am hopeless at doing anything that requires reading directions first. I'm a kinesthetic learner. Hands on and I can do it. Don't expect me to READ it first and figure it out from there.; I was looking for a new sewing machine, having driven mine to the dust from oversewing. Got one I liked, and set it up at home, started sewing and it only sewed in REVERSE. Interesting phoenomenon. Took it back, tried the other one they had at the store and it did the same thing. Why would someone build that in? When I used the reverse switch, it still sewed in reverse, only faster. Hmm. Some wise guy suggested turning the machine around and sewing that way. All the unemployed commedians in the world, and I have to get this one for a neighbor. The Original , Congratulations! I knew you would do a contractor's job in installing these chimes! Kudos! Now you tell me what Westminster chimes sound like? Do they sound like Big Ben? I'm asking before I go wikipeding. Chris
