Guest guest
Oh Boy !!! What a ci moment! <grin> Alice * I was greeted with a cheerful " Jan here " instead of the more common " Pizza perfect " when I ordered pizza tonight. I told Jan I would like to order in my most cheerful voice. She said, " we don't take orders, you've reached a funeral home. rofl Larry ------ -- No virus found in this incoming message. Guest guest
> I just had to share our CI moment from today. Annika is going to an oral deaf school now and her and one of the little boys there have this kind of " relationship " going. He has told his mom that he thinks Annika is pretty. Well, anyway today was Dad's breakfast at school so I took Dad and Annika to school today. We went out for lunch to add to the special day. We were sitting there eating our burgers at Culver's and ask Annika if she saw Joe today. Annika looked at him and said " I saw Joe today " . Well, we were celebrating this because this was the first time that we heard her use a whole sentence on her own with out imitating or having to break the sentence into parts. Well she got into the celebration and told us " I did a good job " . Neither of us had said anything about her doing a good job at that time(though we usually praise her when she verbalizes or imitates). Needless to say Mom was in tears again. What a beautiful experience that must have been for all of you. Thinking back to all those moments when you wondered if you were doing the right thing for your daughter and then hearing her speak in full sentences today must have been an amazing validation of your decision. Thank you so much for sharing and congratulations to all of you for enjoying a moment that would not have been possible without the technology of the cochlear implant. Guest guest
, Wow, what a great ci moment. Little Annika has come a long ways in 10 months time. soon you will be celebrating her one year anniversary. Can't wait to hear how that celebration goes. Sounds like she's doing just terrific even comparing to normal hearing 2.5 yr old children. Yep.. You certainly made the right choice when you decided to have her implanted. I love hearing all the everyday miracles that the ci brings into our lives. Give Annika hugs and tell her " auntie silly " said yes.. She difinitely did a good job.<smiles> Hugs and have a great weekend, Silly MI In , " Wanha " <rlw70@h...> wrote: > I just had to share our CI moment from today. Guest guest
Replacing batteries once a year is a good idea because smoke alarms do not work right and beep incessently then their batteries are low. When I was still deaf and had a hearing dog, my handyman replaced an old smoke alarm. What I did not know was he tossed the old one and it fell behind a book case. Two months later, it began to beep LOUD once every 30 seconds because its battery was low. It drove my poor dog nuts. He would look puzzled and come lie down at my feet which is what a hearing dog is supposed to do if an alarm goes off. They are not supposed lead you to the source of an alarm sound in case that i where the fire would be. He kept doing this, looking puzzled and then lying at my feet. This went on for about two weeks until I found the alarm and tossed it in the dumpster. , who just tracked kyou all down on Implanted December 1988, Activated January 1989 Legally blind most of my life Totally deaf for part of my life Nan Rosen _www.rosetwig.com_ (http://www.rosetwig.com/)
Guest guest
This is my 2nd try..1ST time didn't go through CI Moment Just want to share what i heard last evening. This is a sound that i had not yet heard ,even after having my CI for 9YRS, so it was quite scarey. I was home alone watching tV.I heard this sorta squeaky sound every 3 or 4 minutes.Thinking it might be one of my processors I first turned one off and listened..then the other.I heard it with each processor. Then I thought it might be coming from outside so i checked there..nope i didn't hear it.Then I went in the basement and couldn't hear it there. So I went back upstairs and went from room to room. I was getting a bit afraid...It was the loudest in the back of the house.THEN,,i thought..it is the smoke alarm. The batteries are going out.So I stood under it and yep, that is what it was.I didn't change the batteries and after awhile the sound stopped. When My hubby changed them this morning I heard the same sound.. Guest guest
Dora, Make a point of changing the batteries once a year. Or better yet, get new units that uses the 10 year battery. Its too frustrating when its a sound you so rarely hear. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* Question _your own_ authority. & Gimlet (Guide Dawggie) Newport, Oregon N24C 3G 8/2000 Hookup rclark0276@... Guest guest
Dora, You may want to replace the batteries in your smoke detector at the same time every year. For example, I replace the batteries in mine the last Sunday in October when we turn our clocks back an hour for daylight saving. Your CI moment reminded me of something that happened to me many years ago. Throughout the day I kept hearing a repetitive beep. When I walked around my apartment to find the source of the sound, I noticed that the sound became louder when I stood under the smoke detector. Thinking that the batteries in the detector were depleted, I called maintenance to ask if they would replace them. When the maintenance person arrived, he told me that it wasn't the smoke detector I was hearing, but the message alert on a new answering machine I purchased the day before. LOL! Fortunately the maintenance person lived one floor below me, so he didn't have to drive in order to get here. After I apologized for the mistake and explained that I was hard of hearing, he told me not to worry and mentioned that he had similar experiences because he was deaf in one ear! Guest guest
Hi Sharon! Good to see your post! I have not been posting as much lately either due to end of the year school activities and getting my gardens in. That's exciting you can hear your daughter when she is downstairs. Hmmm, I didn't realize a peach would make noise if you tear into it. I usually use a knife. Will have to try it sometime. Speaking of the flower beds....it's threatening to rain so my flower beds will remain weedy for another day or so. I love the noise the weeds make when they are pulled out. Thanks for sharing your CI Moments. Keep them coming everyone! Happy Father's Day to all the dads! Now I think I will go enjoy a cup of tea and the rest of the Nextell race with my dad. Good luck to all of you who are just starting on your journey out of muffleness. Best wishes to all you who are facing surgery and hook up. May your surgery be successful and your recovery smooth. And my very best wishes go to all of you who are still struggling with the CI. May you someday soon have that " Ahhh, this is nice map! " Take care Everyone! Patti N24C 11/25/02 (What A Day!) Guest guest
Sharon, What great CI moments you had!! Congratulations!! I didn't know peaches made a tearing sound when you removed their seeds...I'll have to listen for that sound the next time I eat one! Isn't it amazing how each day with a CI gets better and better? Someone on another list told me she still hears new sounds even at 3 years post activation. Amazing!! I look forward to reading more of your CI moments. Keep them coming!! Guest guest
Patti, That's what I love about reading CI Moments. We learn new things that makes sounds and want to try it, too. They also take us down memory lane. I remember being total deaf after bilateral CI surgery in 2002 and everyone was posting about hearing Christmas bells and music. I wanted to hear those bells so bad. I bought a wreath made of tiny bells and couldn't hear a thing that Christmas. Now I can hear it, all those bells jingling at the same time. It's music to me. Every year since then, when I get the wreath of bells out, I think of the time I bought them and why. They have a very special meaning to me. A new beginning. I haven't noticed any noise when I pull weeds in the flowerbeds except me grunting. I'll have to listen harder the next time. The traffic noise is loud in front of my house and my neighbor's dogs bark a lot. Thanks for sharing. As you may remember, I was evaluated for a CI in June, 2004 but was not implanted until December because of delays, cancellations and insurance issues. I was really looking forward to hearing all of the wonderful sounds of Christmas, but it was a little too late. That being said, my activation really couldn't have come at a better time because I was able to hear birds sing as well as all of the other sounds associated with spring. Summer is now here and I'm looking forward to hearing crickets for the first time. Each season brings its own wonderful sounds and I can't wait to hear all of the beautiful sounds of Christmas -- bells, carols and all! Guest guest
Hi Sharon and Everyone else reading this! Guess what? I have that same bell wreath and I know the very special meaning yours has to you because mine holds a special meaning for me too! I bought mine in my deaf days and hung it on our main entrance door where it didn't last long there because my youngest brother hated the sound of it. But, I loved that thing sooo much I kept it from being trashed by him. It's the first box I unpack each year. I was shocked just how loud it was the first time I heard it with my CI! It still does not hang on the door; but it looks great hanging on the wall where I get to shake it all I want. And I still find it amazing how I never heard it until getting my CI! About the weeds making noise...I don't know the name of the weed; but there are some weeds here, in PA, that grow close together and if you pull up a middle part of the mass, the rest comes along with it and it makes a rrrrriiiiiipppppp sound as the roots are pulled from the ground. There is also another weed, in my perenial bed, that is very invasive. It has a long root system and that too makes a rrrriiiipppp sound as I yank it out. I used to do a lot of thinking while I weeded. Now I find myself doing a lot of listening while I weed. Your neighbor and my neighbor must be related. They have barking dogs too. Guest guest
Hi K! Even though I had my surgery before Thanksgiving, I was not hooked up until after New Years. I have no regrets about having to wait a whole year to hear the wonderful sounds of the holidays. Like you stated, each season brings its own wonderful sounds and by getting hooked up in January, I had the whole year to get used to my imbalance and hearing with my CI and to look forward to the sounds of the Christmas holidays. It was an exciting year! And it still is exciting for me. I am still discovering new sounds each week. I am still very much in awe with what my CI has given me in 29 months of being hooked up! Guest guest
Hi Larry, It is always great to hear about other peoples CI moments. This whole CI hearing thing is so awesome. Louise NJ -----Original Message----- From: [mailto: ]On Behalf Of larry wilson hello everyone, I had a delightful CI moment today. (smile) I was sitting in the room with my Sharon at the nursing home. She must have breatheing treatments and the machine sounds like a vacuum cleaner. While having her breathing treatment, the lunch menu was read from the office over the microphone. I was able to understand the menu in spite of the noise of the breatheing machine. I could not have done that with my hearing aids, and I doubt I could have accomplished this with a single implant. I am so glad I went bilateral. Although I had trouble adjusting to the Freedom, it is getting better with every month. Larry
Guest guest
I am a bagpipe fan. Maybe it was due to the precious memories of a family member playing them when I was a child or maybe just because I am very fond of music. It was the one thing I missed the most when I lost my hearing. Now with my CI music is incredible. I can understand the words so much better than before. Music means a lot to me and I find my kids and I are always finding a song to sing. Guest guest
Hi, All, Well, today I had the very best CI Moment since first being implanted in Oct. 2002. I will be as delicate as I can, but I really think it's something! Some of you know I recently had a kidney stone " episode " . Most times, the doctors help with the pain, then send you home to " pass " the stone on your own. Not to be indelicate, but in order to capture the stone so it can be lab analyzed, one must " void " into a container of some sort, other than the usual toilet. (I'm TRYING to be delicate! <giggling> ) After a week and a half, I finally delivered the ugly thing this morning! But before I actually saw it, I HEARD a distinct " clink " as it popped out. I knew before even looking what it was. Now, without my CI's, I NEVER would have heard that and without being bilateral I don't believe I would have heard it either! So I'm just exstatic to have the darn thing OUT - but as much so to have heard it! LOL Hope this wasn't too much for anyone! ) Jackie
