Guest guest
Hi , Postlingual adults who have been implanted for a year have a LOT of auditory memory to rely on for understanding speech. wouldn't have that since she lost hearing so early in her life. I'm hoping you have her in AV therapy which not only teacher her to HEAR but to LISTEN and SPEAK. Very important for her to get this. Either privately, or in a school situation, as part of her Individual Education Plan (IEP). State pays for this service if you have her in a school setting for pre school. Unless you are a speech therapist or an AV therapist, you are not the one to try to teach her to speak. You can reinforce what the professionals do, and can certainly work with her at home all the time, but she will need professional help to catch up with her age peers. Meanwhile, a LOT of 3 year old kids have speech that is not easy to understand. Nucleus Volunteer From: " Lambert " <tahoetreefort@...> Subject: Question for Postlinguals Hi, I wanted to ask you Postlinguals what hearing through a Cochlear Implant is like for you. My daughter has been activated with her implant for one year now, she just turned three, and I wonder what hearing is like for her. She is doing very well, starting to say three word sentences, however everything she says is very hard to understand (except 'NO'- LOL)! Any feedback is appreciated. - Mom to - 3yo
