Guest guest
Ted, Doesn't the 2400 speed use up batteries quickly? I had 1800 and was going thru batteries every day or every other day. I had a new mapping yesterday. Program 1 900 with AS, Prog 2 1200 with AS, Program 3 1800 with AS, and Bean (which now they are mapping with volume raised and AS down)....beam seemed to work best coming home from the audiologist as I kept it on all during the ride home. Had my implant October 05...Freedom. My biggest complaint has been the hollow/tunnel like sound. Have you experienced this?
Guest guest
, I have P-1 1200 Open P-2 1200 Autosensitivity P-3 1200 Adro and P-4 is an old program which I will have removed when I return in September. I think I will try beam one more time, and get rid of adro. Or maybe not. I tried Adro with music and was not impressed, but today I had it on by accident and I think it was a good in-between substitute for my Open slot and my Auto slot. Regarding the hollow sounds. My audi turned off one or two of my electrodes and it made a wonderful difference. You might ask your audi about that. I was implanted Jan. 06 and activated February. Love it, love it, love it. Judy Jax FL PS Just so I don't sound overly enthusiastic, I still have problems with the human voice as often as not, but everything else sounds just superb. And those voices are getting better all the time. MCHUDACOFF@... wrote: I had a new mapping yesterday. Guest guest
, I have P-1 1200 Open, P-2 1200 Autosensitivity, P-3 1200 ADRO, P-4 an older program which I will have removed when I return in September. I will try Beam again and have ADRO removed because I'm not impressed with its use listening to music. On the other hand, I may keep it. Today I had ADRO on accidentally while flying from FL to NY. It seems that it may be a good in-between substitute for my Open program and my Auto program. It really cut down on the engine noise yet let me hear my husband. No luck with the pilot's voice except for a few words. After the plane's motors were shut off, I did hear about half of the instructions from the flight attendant. Believe me, that is IMPROVEMENT. Regarding the hollow sounds. My audi turned off one or two of my electrodes and that made an enormous difference. You might ask your audi about that. I was implanted in January 200 and activated in February. Love it, love it, love it. Judy Jax, FL PS Lest I sound overly enthusiastic, I still have problems as often as not with the human voice. But other sounds are superb. However, the voices are getting better every day, every week. > I had a new mapping yesterday. Guest guest
Dear , When I first got my 3G, I experienced the hollow sound. However, it dissipated as my brain became accostomed to my implant. I haven't had the problem with my Freedom and it sounds better with each passing day. I found better clarity with 1200 than with 2400 or 3500. When I go for my appointment with the audiologist, I will try 900 and beam. That 3500 really eats up the batteries!! Guest guest
I was just wondering why you have auto-sensitivity on three out of 4 programs as from my experience that may be causing your hollow/tunnel like sound. I off and on have been experiencing the same thing with ADRO (ADRO being alot like auto-sensitivity only not as pronounced) and now realize what happens is when the CI " hears " my own voice it is louder than others and thus the ADRO will kick in and cause the sound to become softer which gives me a hollow/tunnel like sound. I am wondering if because you have three out of 4 programs on auto-sensitivity if that is not what is happening to you? I would really like to know if there is a reason to us auto-sensitivity so much--maybe I am missing out on something really great and need to check it out. Guest guest
Hello Yes, the 2400 speed does use up batteries very quickly. I have been keeping a log of how long each set of 3 lasted, the shortest time was 16 hours and 45 minutes and the longest was 19 hours and 50 minutes. Thats the time of actual use over a two week period. I havent hd any experience of hollow, tunnel sounds. Everything sounds pretty normal to me. I want to try an 1800 map again now, just to see if I get even more clarity than I do now and to see if I get a better result with music. Battery life isnt really an issue, because I get them for nothing, but a longer period between changing them would be nice. Oddly enough, when I listen to music through my headphones, which is either on TV or DVD, it sounds pretty good. But when I listen to music CD's, it could do with improvement? I find autosensitivity best in the car, for masking out the road, tyre and traffic noises, it works extremely well. Guest guest
I use ADRO as my main programme. I alternate between ADRO and Whisper for TV and DVD's. I always use Autosensitivity in the car, in shopping centres and in other noisy places. I havent found Beam to be of much use to me, yet. I certainly wouldnt use Autosensitivity all the time. When I have inadvertently left it on after leaving the car, things sound muffled. I dont think Autosensitivity is meant to be used for everything, these programmes are, I am led to believe, for specific uses. But if things work for other people differently, thats OK too. Theres no right or wrong, just better or worse :-) Ted F. > > > > I was just wondering why you have auto-sensitivity on three out >of 4 programs as from my experience that may be causing your >hollow/tunnel like sound. Guest guest
Hi Ted, Interesting that you have been playing around with different program speeds as well. After the discussion here recently about different program speeds I asked my audie at the last mapping session if I could have a slower speed out of curiosity. So she created a new map at 900 hz and kept my usual 1800 hz program in the P1 slot. I have to say I do like the 900 hz program and best of all my batteries are lasting for 49 hours instead of 20 hours! As to whether I feel this way in a few months time I don't know but it's good to know that we can experiment like that but then revert to the old program if we don't like it! > > > > Ted, > > > > Doesn't the 2400 speed use up batteries quickly? > > > > I had 1800 and was going thru batteries every day or every other > > day. > > > > I had a new mapping yesterday. Guest guest
Hello , good to hear you are experimenting, its good that we are able to do this. Its from messages written here that I now want to try a slower speed. It was probably going to be forced on me pretty soon anyway, so I would prefer to do it sooner, rather than later. When we are doing my mapping, there are 4 red lines running right down the screen on the graph thing, I'm getting maxed out for power on some of the electrodes. So, even though there is a tolerance built into the system, If I get too many more, I will have to drop back to an 1800 programme anyway. I havent treally played around with my settings much at all, I've had and preferred the 2400 speed from day 1. But the audi did put an 1800 speed programme on one of the slots for me initially, but I never took to it. Now that my brain is more accustomed to what I hear, I think its probably time to see what that 1800 sounds like now. As a precaution, I'll just get it put into the one slot with ADRO, then I'll try and persevere with it for a couple of weeks to see how I go with it. If I think its better, I'll get it put in all four slots with ADRO, Autosensitivity, Whisper and Beam. Has anyone had any outstanding success with Beam in REAL noise :-) They record all of our mapping sessions, so its pretty easy to go back to an earlier one. Guest guest
Ted, What kind of head set for music and tv? Music sounds like a screeching cat fight to me, and it's been over months since I was operated on.
Guest guest
As with Ted, I'm am the same with choosing ADRO and Whisper for the most part with ADRO my main program (can't live without that program :-) I use Squelch (Freedom's default program) and Autosensitivity just for certain circumstances. Whisper is great in conferences, conference calls, anywhere there is just a main speaker in a fair sized room. I often tell people it is the program you want to use in the middle of the meadow listening to mother nature. I would never use Autosensitivity all the time either. You just miss too much information. About the best use for Autosentivity I've found is during loud events like parties, cafeterias, and etc. plus when in the car especially with the windows down (if the windows are up, I usually stick with ADRO). On another note, I want to mention about the volume and sensitivity settings. Once I have a mapping, I twiddle only with the volume to get it where I'm comfortable. I do have my Audi give me more mapping " range " in terms of " loudness " just to have if I need it. So, my volume level is usually in the middle like " 5 " depending on that " range " I mentioned previously. I have long since settled on " 10 " for sensitivity as that is not really impacted by mapping " per se " . It is more of a function how far away you want to include in your world of noise. I guess I'm saying that it is not necessary for me to hear like Radar O'Reilly (MASH) {grin}...although I hear quite alot with that sensitivity level. Dale " Ted F. Guest guest
They are Beyerdynamics DT860's, . The cups fit right over the top of my processor on the one ear and my BTE hearing aid on the other. I bought mine new, on eBay. http://tinyurl.com/hrqjq This is a better photo of the headphones themselves: http://www.headphone.com/productPhotos.php?icn=0020110860 I am 62 years of age and it was only when I first started researching headphones, that I found out that headphones have speakers inside them. You're never too old to learn, it seems :-) Good headphones apparently, have good speakers in them. I have them attached to a Yamaha amplifier, which I listen to the TV, DVD's or CD's through. I bought mine at the beginning of June and when the football/soccer World Cup was on, I was able to listen through the headphones and hear the commentary of the matches, over the top of the crowd noise and drum banging, which was quite remarkable for me. Normally I would have watched the game, with the sound turned off. The matches were played very late night, very early morning in Australia and I used to turn the sound off to the TV and just listen through the headphones, with no noise coming out into the room. It was wonderful and this was only about 6 weeks after activation for me. We are all different, someone else might not get the same results. Headphones by themselves might not give you good sounding music, it could be a mapping problem. Ted F. > > Ted, > > What kind of head set for music and tv? Guest guest
Ted, I answered MCHUDACOFF a little earlier with this response... Squelch is the default program for Freedom (at least that is what my Audi told me its name was...maybe others call it something else...) Anyway, I don't know if I can describe it exactly but it " squelches " sounds when louder. It is obviously a different algorthm than ADRO and I find it useful when listening to music in the car when the windows are down. In this case, it " squelches " the wind and other loud noises from the outside and I can focus more on the music. If I want to listen to talk radio, then I need to switch over to Autosensitivity. Guest guest
Dale I had to chuckle at your reference to Radar on Mash. I just remembered that used to be my nickname when I was in my 20s. Strange that I eventually lost my hearing. PS I was nicknamed Radar because I was the short one in the crowd. Guest guest
Ted, I understand where you are coming from. I hadn't seen anybody else mention it either. I had beam at one time and I didn't care for it. Squelch is the the so called " open " program by default that cochlear provides. As I mentioned earlier, it may have a different name. I'm just going by what my Audi told me. Believe me, I had five different strategies...ADRO, Beam, Whisper, Autosensitivity, and Squelch. They all handle sounds differently. Dale " Ted F. Guest guest
, I'm just getting maxed out on about 4 electrodes. We havent reached any dangerous stages yet and I wont let it get to that. My audi and I have alredy discussed me trying the 1800 speed programme again now. I didnt like it first time around, but things have changed considerably in the past few months. I'm not in pain at all and wouldnt let it get to that stage. Ted F. > > Ted, > > Be careful if you are maxed out with power.
