Guest guest
Hi Chris Things that come to mind. Pre-Surgery - Be careful with taking any vitamins or minerals or drugs without consulting your CI surgeon - Ask your surgeon his instructions on washing your hair after surgery. - Ask your surgeon about the stitches and incission. Some people tend to wonder about the care needed for the incission so ask if you need to do anything Post Surgery - Have slip on type shoes to wear out of the hospital as it may be a challenge to bend over and tie - Have a big shirt as some people have a turban placed on their heads (pressure bandage) - Have on hand at home prepared meals so that you do not have to cook (better yet ask for some TLC from friends or family) - Be prepared for day three which sometimes is the day where people lack the most energy and start to feel some pain - Be prepared for the possibility of change in taste for a few days, or bruising - In some cases people are asked not to wash their head for a few days - ask your surgeon in advance (I should probably write this above) Most importanyly clear your schedule for a few days; be prepared to relax and catch up on reading or something like that Wishing you a fabulous surgery Kim B > > Hello, > > I am going to have the CI surgery on May 19th and would like to know > the do's and don'ts for Pre and Post CI Surgery. Guest guest
I had an easy surgery on Feb. 24, 2006. They told me not to sneeze or to blow my nose for at two weeks. Also not to wash my hair for a week. After I went to the DR. and got the staples out I was allowed to wash my hair. But he told me to be very careful about brushing it over the implant. As it was very sore at that time, I still have some soreness but it's mostly all healed up now. I'm pleased with the good job they did on me. The only think I'm waiting for is my hair to grow back so I can style it as I normally would. Good luck to you. Guest guest
Dolly, LOL welcome to my club. But for some reason I had no problem with sneezing during that time. I don't know if it had something to do with the surgery or not but I had no problem at all. Patsy
Guest guest
Hi ! I has surgery on March 22, 2006, and did not have any cautions about blowing your nose (I just pulled out the post op instrucitons to check). They DID advise to open your mouth if you have to sneeze sneezing (for 2 weeks). Other cautions were no lifting of more than 10 pounds for 2 weeks, no flying for a month (although some fly very soon after). No contact sports (like rugby for you down under) for a month. The two most useful tips I received from the groups were 1) do NOT wear a pullover shirt for surgery - wear a button shirt, to make it easier to dress with the turban bandage on your head. 2) if you wear eyeglasses, remove the side piece on the implanted side to make it easier to wear glasses until the bandage comes off. Hope this helps - I wish you an uneventful surgery and a very speedy recovery !! Regards, Jim S. > > Thanks for bringing this up. Guest guest
I am curious, did the doctor tell any of you how to STOP the sneeze/sneezing from happening? Is there a trick? I know one suggestion given by one of you is to keep your mouth open, but gee, that will be one tough thing to do as one's sneeze before one's thinks, well in my case anyway, lol. My sneezing come so darn fast without warning and sometime three times in a row. Dolly Dolphin

Guest guest
RACHEL: VERY LITTLE HAIR WAS SHAVED..........ONLY RIGHT BEHIND THE IMPLANTED EAR. IF YOU HAVE LONG HAIR NOW YOU WON'T EVEN NOTICE IT WHEN YOU FIX YOUR HAIR. MY HAIR WAS SHORT SO IT IS EASY TO SEE BUT IT IS GROWING OUT FAST. NO ONE THINKS ANYTHING OF THE MISSING HAIR THE WAY I FEEL IT WELL WORTH IT. PATSY
Guest guest
Thanks Jim that is great advice! It would not have occurred to me to get button down clothes but that is perfect common sense. Guest guest
You're being operated on at the Mater in Sydney, . I was operated on at the Mater in Brisbane. If they both use the same methods, they took the turban bandage off me before I was released the morning after surgery. I was quite disappointed, I was looking forward to getting some interesting photo's taken. I looked like someone that had escaped from a bad accident :-). Ted F. > > Thanks Jim that is great advice! Guest guest
Hi Ted, Yep I reckon they will do the same with me too. I am being kept in overnight after the surgery. I would have liked to have kept the turban on as Mother in Law is coming to stay for two weeks just before the surgery and it would have been useful for the " I'm too sick to cook and clean after you " routine that I'm planning to use. She is a great cook! :-) Did they shave a lot of your hair off by the way? Being a vain female I am wondering how much is going to come off!
