Guest guest
Hi, In June of 2006 I received my first CI & on Monday Dec 18 my second CI. My insurance is covering it. My audiologist wrote a letter on m,y behalf and I had a CI evaluationin the previously unimplanted ear. I don't know how I will be when I am activated but I do love the way I can hear with my CI ear. If your insurance company does not approve the second ci another apporach is that is if a person looses two limbs does the insurance company replace only one with a prothesis? No they replace two, the same should be for an CI implant. Have your audiologist write a letter and have a CI evaluation and resubmit it to your insurance company Best of luck to you. > > My last question, regarding regrets with choosing to go bliateral > didn't seem to get much response. Guest guest
dwntwngr1303 ~ I was already evaluated and heavy supporting documentation has been presented as well as a phone consultation between my surgeon and the insurance caseworker. It has been a long waiting game and it was suggested that maybe a letter from me will kick them into making a decision. I work for public education, great insurance, they approved the first one within a week. Thanks for your response Freedom 9/21/05 HOOKED!! Guest guest
Hi . I love my 2 CIs. As far as the letter, there are a few things you should bring up. Sound location for the sake of safety is a big one, better speech understanding is another. Those are both much better typically with sound being received on both sides. Conversation or listening in noisy environments, or in groups of people is also better with binaural hearing. Personally, I think everything is better that way. Good luck, Jane Bilateral -- help with letter to insurance My last question, regarding regrets with choosing to go bliateral didn't seem to get much response. Or it's just too close to the holidays that's ok! It occured to me that there may be a higher majority of single CI users who may be using hearing aids in their un implanted ear. The few people who wrote to say they love being bilateral seem to be extremely happy with having gone that route. I have been waiting (probably too patiently) for insurance approval for my second CI. Just the other day, my audi suggested I write a letter to my insurance explaining why I want this done. Aside from being able to understand better in noise and to localize, does anyone here have other suggestions that I might include in my letter? I am profoundly deaf in the un implanted ear; a hearing aid does not give me any gainful benefit. Many thanks! Freedom 9/21/05 HOOKED!! Guest guest
you might want to check with officials in your state (not sure what it is called but it is a regulating agency in the state) and ask if there is a deadline when an insurance company has to answer your request. I seem to remember that my insurance company had to answer in 4 weeks for my first CI. Guest guest
Wow dwntwngrl it's interesting that you have gone for a second CI so soon. I got implanted back in June 2006 as well and think I may start the process for a second one in June next year. I'm not completely sure yet but will see how I go in the tests. > > > Hi, > In June of 2006 I received my first CI & on Monday Dec 18 my second > CI. My insurance is covering it. Guest guest
Ah, Connie, Good suggestions. It is the Ohio Insurance Regulatory Commission. And they are in Columbus, OH. If you google it, I'm sure the address comes up. Probably on High Street, as are most state office. Always good to go right to the top. Thanks for the suggestion. Most, if not all states, have insurance regulatory commissions. The Original you might want to check with officials in your state (not sure what it is called but it is a regulating agency in the state) and ask if there is a deadline when an insurance company has to answer your request. I seem to remember that my insurance company had to answer in 4 weeks for my first CI. Connie
Guest guest
I wouldlike to say I am so grateful to be able to hear so well with the CI, my hearing tests were in the 90% in my CI ear and music on the ipod is getting better everyday. I went bilateral so i can hopefully hear again like a normal hearing person with two ears not one sided. Hope that in noisy situations it gets easier to. My newly implanted ear hopefully will progress the same way as my first implanted CI. -- In , " rachael4peter " <prdavies@...> wrote: > > Wow dwntwngrl it's interesting that you have gone for a second CI so > soon. Guest guest
Hi , What was their responce to why they will not cover a second CI? Did you consider asking your CI provider for insurance support? If they approved the first one they should approve a second one. good luck. > > > > > > My last question, regarding regrets with choosing to go bliateral > > > didn't seem to get much response. Guest guest
Actually my insurance has never denied it.
