Guest guest
Me too! I love the rechargeables because it's simply a morning/bedtime routine. No changing batteries any time during the day ever! There is no difference in sound quality to me. When I go away, I'll use the disposables. I LOVE having this " freedom " of not hearing those annoying " batteries expiring soon " beeps. Now I just pop in a newly charged battery in the morning and at night stick it in the charger. I ordered the kit since it offered 2 batteries.
Guest guest
The rechargeables do not last as long as disposables. My audie told me to expect approximately 39 hours with disposables and about 14 hours with the rechargeables. I'm getting more than 14 hours in constantly loud environments so I am happy about that, but that's why I set them in the charger every night. Anyway so yes, if I were to use a higher speed map than I do now, then any batteries I choose would last less time. It's an individual thing as far as how much time you'll get either way. Guest guest
and , Good news! A few minutes ago I checked my mail and received a Braille letter (you can send free Braille letters through the mail via a website even if you don't know Braille -- how cool is that?) and Christmas check from one of my sisters! I won't tell you how much she sent, but let's just say if I combine the amount with the money I have available this month, I can afford to purchase a battery charger! Yay! Like you , I'm also looking forward to not having to change batteries in the middle of the day! Looks like Santa paid an early visit to my house this year! LOL! Guest guest
, Great news! I'm sure you will like the rechargeables. You said that you were using a 900 map, so they should work fine for you. I love the rechargeables. They are so much easier to use than the disposables. However, like said, if I go out of town, I prefer to use the disposables. Guest guest
Lynn, That's correct -- I'm using ACE at 900 Hz on both processors. Guest guest
Oh , the rechargeable batteries are wonderful. No fiddling with removing 3 tiny batteries and then replacing 3 tiny batteries. Just pop the rechargeable battery out and another one in. Presto! Guest guest
, When I was trying different speed maps, the 2400 speed depleted the battery at about 8 hours. The 1800 speed depleted it at about 15 hours-- usually about an hour or so before my bedtime. At 1200 and 900, it lasted all day. I have settled on 1200 now, and the rechargeable does fine for me. Guest guest
Yes a faster speed will deplete any batteries faster. Also remember that faster is not always better. Guest guest
, That sounds so convenient! Even though I don't have any problems removing or inserting batteries into my Freedom, it sure would be nice to be able to charge the batteries at night and know I have 24 hour's worth of battery power for the day! I think I'm really going to like using rechargeables! Guest guest
Connie, Exactly! When I was choosing CI brands, one of the things my former CI audi told me was that not everyone prefers or performs well with a faster speed. When I tried ACE at 1200 Hz, I couldn't make any sense of what I was hearing. (Sounds/voices were extremely high pitched and garbled.) Once I was brought down to 900 Hz, that change seemed to make all the difference. Guest guest
Lynn, Thanks for sharing your experiences using rechargeable batteries. Reduced battery life is something I'll have to keep in mind once I try them myself! Guest guest
, I charge my Freedom batteries at the end of each day, whether they have died or not. Mine actually don't last more than a day anyway. I had a couple of extra long days, and my battery died shortly before I went to bed, or the battery warning beeps were going off as I was getting ready for bed. Lynn Fairhope, AL Nucleus Freedom Surgery date: 9/6/06 Activation date: 9/27/06 Rechargeables Are you recharging Freedom batteries when they die out or at the end of the day even if they have not died out? Guest guest
I recharge my Freedom batteries when they die - usually get 19 hours of use. Rosemary in California (winters in Az.) Guest guest
It depends on your mapping, how long the rechargeable lasts. I have 500 speed and I noticed I can go two days without having to recharge. I was recharging at the end of the day. Recently noticed that I can get an extra full day out of one complete charge (19hrs) per day... a in L.A. Freedom implanted 8-06. Guest guest
Lithium Ion batteries benefit when you recharge them completely and more often. The closer they get to being completely discharged, the more the battery degrades. So don't let your battery discharge completely - charge it as much as possible.. Nickel-cadimum batteries (a different type often used in cell phones) benefit from being completely discharged. Make sure you understand your battery - you can prolong its life a LOT. Also don't leave batteries charging once they're already fully charged. This can also decrease battery life. Burton
Guest guest
I was implanted over 4 years ago and never received mine until I phoned the company a couple weeks ago. They were in my mailbox in less than a week after that phone call. I only received one size, but was given the chance to order the other size at a discount. Jaquita From: skedi1@... Date: Mon, 6 Sep 2010 09:46:22 -0700 Subject: Rechargeables Hi, Just wondering about the rechargeables for the N5. Did everyone who got the N5 before the rechargeables were approved get theirs by now? And do the ones like me who will be implanted with the N5 get the rechargeables right away or do they wait till everyone else is caught up? And do you get both sizes of rechargeables? I saw that there were two sizes. I'm assuming, since the FDA approval for the rechargeables, that all newly implanted N5 receipients will automatically get them in the kit/goodie box. I absolutely love using the rechargeables. Every night I put them in the recharger and alternate the batteries. I am looking forward to when the FM system would be ready for it. I can use the Freedom MicroLink receiver for the FM I use, but I also have the MicroMLxS receiver for the HA, too. I still have another MicroLinkMLxS (when I fitted for FMs I had two HAs and the audie was hoping that it would work with my hearing loss, but I was not picking up anything in one ear (now implanted). So here's yet another question: What adaptors can I use if there is one to work with the N5 till they have a FM receiver for it?? Oh, and another question this time about the drying capsules...are they only to be used with the N5? Can the briks still be used? Is there a different dry and store thingy? I use them for the HA in the unimplanted ear for now. I do have some hearing in it, but I really don't hear much difference with both on except for volume. When I put in the HA alone, I'm not hearing very well with it. (I know, it's probably a dumb question, but it's still nice to know.) I was googling at Amazon.com ad they have the dry briks at $11 for a six-pack. Not bad when you consider that Cochlear's Online Store sells them for $10 for a three pack. That's almost double your money's value. Thanks so much, Shari in WI
Guest guest
Shari, Holly had her first surgery in December and got her rechargeable batteries quite awhile ago. Her second surgery was in July and she got rechargeables in her goodie box. She really loves those batteries. > > Hi, > > Just wondering about the rechargeables for the N5. > > Did everyone who got the N5 before the rechargeables were approved get theirs by now?
