I understood that completely. I think. LOLOL!

I tried SPEAK with the body processor after I'd tried the ACE, and I did not

like SPEAK at all. I have a 1200 speed program (started with 900, but 1200 was

much clearer. I wonder if I could go back to the 900 now with the maps I have,

as I'm topping the " green " area out on the mappings. I might ask about this at

my next appointment. These batteries are getting used up faster and faster LOL.

I'm glad my insurance will pay for them, but still, if I can get better battery

life, I'd go for it, if it didn't compromise my speech perception.

Take care,

Cin

HOW slow can you go

Not sure if time makes it easier to go with slower speeds. I started

with SPEAK, which was all that was available at the time. But when ACE

and CIS came out, I tried both of those, and still prefer SPEAK. I get

unbelievable battery life - like 13 DAYS regularly. 15 hour days, too.

Slow works for me. But then I'm a blonde, or at least I think I'm a

blonde, and I think I think, you know?

I think what people mean it that finding the right speed is part of the

progress and that many times people do very well with slower speeds which

definately helps battery life. I also wonder if there is any opinions on

whether the longer ones has the CI the lower the speed can go?

Can you still use the phone and listen to music, with SPEAK, the

I've been keeping a check on how long my batteries have been lasting

me over the past couple of weeks and also to see if using headphones

makes any difference to battery life. They have lasted me between 18

hrs 40 mins and 19 hrs 50 mins. Headphone use, as someone already

pointed out, dont seem to make any difference. I am on the 2400 speed

at the moment.

Hi ,

I'm not blonde myself, but I am still trying to figure which is better for

me--SPEAK or ACE. Some days, I like SPEAK, and some days, I like ACE. I am at

950, and I have 900 open slot. I am trying many different things like going to

the movies, using cell phone and CapTel, talking to my colleagues, et cetera.

For me, SPEAK sounds better when I am with the people, and ACE spounds better

when I am using the phone. My minor problem is that I have been recently

remapped, so I have to learn everything all over again. However, I find that I

get better as time goes along.

Hi Kent,

You have 4 slots available on your Freedom processor, so do a couple

with SPEAK and a couple with ACE. Use SPEAK with people, and ACE on the

phone. How easy is THAT? The beauty of having more choices, is you can

find the individualized mapping for each situation. You can even have a

map for music, if you don't like it with SPEAK or ACE.

Deb-- For the N24 Users who will be upgrading to the Freedom in the nearby

future, I am sure that they will be able to use ACE, SPeak, and CIS as they cant

use the Hi ACE as their strategy of choice to hear with.

Inccorect. The Freedom does indeed use 4 different speech strategies.

SPEAK, CIS, ACE and Hi ACE.

I'm sorry, I wasn't reading or being clear. I saw Ace

and Speak in the same sentence. Ace is part of the

speed of processing, true. But there is no Speak

w/Freedom as far as I know.

Thanks for straightening that out.

Hmm. Well then I need clarification on speak and CIS

because these are not terms ever used in my mapping

sessions. I am not on upgrade, of course, perhaps that

is the difference.

Thanks.

Deb,

I understand your confusion. I had to ask my audiologist several times, and

every time I get mapping. We also talked about how to put them in order. I

still am not getting them straight. :-/

,

Once I figure out which slot is which. I'll try your suggestion. Thanks!

Hi Kent & every1

I am having a flashback here I remember this discussion a few months

ago and ended up doing a whole lot of studying on the programs

(Strategies) speeds and all of the various options. I thought I had

posted a description of all that stuff on teh web site, but I

can't find it now??? Kent ( if you (or anyone else) would like a copy

let me know I can send it to you directly, sorry I can't attach to

posts in here. It does give a description of teh Programs, speeds and

options in fairly simple terms so it might interest you.

Oh and Kent next time you see your Audi ask for the " Take Home " report

it is great to have as a reference on what program and option is in

each slot,I always getthis evvery time I am mapped.

Hi !

Thank you for the copy and I greatly appreciate it! I got my programs sorted

out, so I know which is better for me. I've been able to use SPEAK when I talk

with people in person. I also use ACE when I talk on the phone or listen to the

TV and stereo systems.

It was quite confusing after the mapping, and it took a while to get used to

the changes.

Thanks again!

Kent
