Guest guest
Well good and bad things have happened this week Bad is that my telephone adapter is no longer working..There is a short on the cord that is creating tons of static.. With that I contacted Bionics only to be told that there is a 90 day warranty on this part and seeing that I have had it since Febrauary it is not covered.. For $80.00 they will send me another one..That is so nice of them, seeing that this whole sebang has cost my insurance company over $60,000.00 they only warrant certain parts for 90 days.. Now sad part is I do 99.9% of my job on the telephone and this helps me greatly having this part.. So since it is not working my job has gone downhill and stress time are upon me again.. Until I can come up with the $80.00 to buy another one I guess that work days are on high stress and limited... But I also had good news.. I was told my new system is at the medical center and they are just waiting to hear that I can be called in to get it up and running.. But that also may not help me with my hearing on the phone as well as the adapter has.. They are hoping to be able to let me have it before the first of the year.. They were given 5 units but have 70 people waiting on them.. Luckily I am the first that is to get one.. And very much hope that it helps if/when I get it to hear on the telephone.. Thanks for listening. --------------------------------- Access over 1 million songs - Music Unlimited.
Guest guest
Thanks Deborah.. As you know working with the phones is a challenge, or one of the many with a CI.. Reliable I did have as I was very happy and content with what I was doing.. Have not worked with the phones this easy in a long time.. Speaking with some people at work they suggest I ask the group if there was any way around this.. Does anyone have any idea on what else I could use to get back on line.. Is there any other place that I could buy a telephone adapter other than Bionics that would be cheaper.. I was hoping that the company would purchase it under the disability laws but I have been told that they only need to provide a phone with an amplifier, which they have but does not do the job as well as the adapter... Many people and words are very hard to understand using just the amplified phone.. But any thought or ideas would be greatly appreciated.. Guest guest
, Sorry to hear about your phone adapter. I'm assuming your adapter had a specialized plug to work with the Bionics processor (and probably won't fit the upgraded one)? Do you have a T-coil for your CI? If you have the t-coil, you could get a T-link or neckloop to work with the telephone. Unfortunately, I think the T-link runs about $40-$50. I'm not sure about the cost of the neckloop. Is your new processor going to have a built-in T-coil? Since you are getting the new one so soon, you might want to see how you do with it and if you need anything extra at all. My Freedom has the t-coil, and I just punch the button and put the phone to my ear. It's frustrating to have something break right before your upgrade. Reminds me of right before having my CI surgery, one of the FM boots needed to be repaired on my hearing aid-- $200 repair and no longer under warranty. I got it back to use a little over a week before the surgery and, of course, I have no need of it any more. Guest guest
Lynn Do you wear a hearing aid in your other ear? I dont whether its any help, but when I had my left ear implanted, I had that hearing aid which now wasnt any good for the left ear, programmed for my right ear. So I now have two right ear hearing aids and thus, a spare. Guest guest
, Now I am not an ADA specialist, but that attitude of " we only have to give you a phone with an amplifier " smacks of " take it or leave it " . Perhaps they don't know that what they must do is provide " reasonable accommodation " so you can do your job. My company purchased a CapTel phone for me (which is not so hot in my opinion but it's something) the second analog line needed to get captioned calls outgoing AND incoming, and before my CI surgery got me the adaptors I needed for a cell phone (also of limited use to me as it turned out, with my hearing going down the drain right about that time). The point being that they have repeatedly said we will do whatever it takes. That's the proper attitude and if they don't see it that way getting a specialist in ADA law involved could become necessary. I can imagine you don't want to get to that point, but someone needs to be educated over there. Good luck with that. Deb --- LINDA MOCHI <nnjl97@...> wrote: > Thanks Deborah..
