RACHAEL,

THE WEEK BEFORE MY SURGERY I CAME DOWN WITH MY USUAL BRONCIAL INFECTION. I

WENT TO URGENT CARE AND EXPLAINED THAT I WAS HAVING A PRE-OP AND SURGERY. I

WAS A DOUBLE SHOT OF AN ANTIBIOTIC IN THE OFFICE AND MORE ANTIBIOTICS TO TAKE

FOR THE NEXT FOUR DAYS.

WHEN IF SAW THE NURSE I TOLD HER WHAT WAS GOING ON, AND I ALSO TOLD EVERYONE

CONNECTED WITH THE SURGEY. I HAD WRITTEN DOWN THE NAMES OF ALL MY MEDICINES.

A LITTLE SORE THROAT ISN'T A BIG DEAL, BUT IF YOU FEEL YOUR GETTING SICK CALL

YOUR DOCTOR OR GO TO URGENT CARE.

HOPE THIS HELPS.

M,

Thanks for that - 4 days to go!

I'm a bit worried as today I'm feeling a bit heavy headed and with a slight

sore throat. I'm hoping I'm not coming down with something. Do they tend

to cancel the op even if you have a minor cold? Anyone have any experience

with that?

A bit of a sore throat shouldnt be a problem. I had a few sniffles

for a few days before my op, I thought I might be coming down with

something. Might be pre-op nerves or stress :-).

If you feel concerned on the day, mention it, but the anaesthetist

will check you out anyway to make sure you arent going to cark on

him :-).

You should have already seen your surgeon and told him what meds you

might be on. I am on an arthritis med and had to stop taking it for a

week before the op.

Thanks Ted for the encouragement. I hope that whatever I've got behaves

itself - it doesn't seem to be getting any worse so far but I will relax

more on Weds I reckon when I have a better idea. I have been very hyped up

until now - not actually that nervous about the op. People have been

looking at me strangely because I have a very " bring it on! " attitude.

My in laws fly in from Brissie tomorrow to stay for 2 weeks - lousy timing

but we hope to parcel them off to some friends during the surgery. I think

they are in for a shock as it is pretty cold and wet in Sydney at the

moment.

RACHAEL,

I LIVE IN THE DESERT WHERE THE WIND KICKS UP VERY STRONG...PLUS IT'S DRY AND

HOT, HOT, HOT.

I HAVE ALERGIES, SINUS AND BRONCIAL ASTHMA (OR SO MY DOCTOR SAYS...NEVER HAD

IT BEFORE) BUT WHEN I GET A SCRATHY THROAT I TAKE " AIRBORNE " ....NON

PRESCRIPTION AND IT SEEMS TO CLEAR ME UP.

HANG IN THERE, GOOD LUCK, AND KEEP US POSTED.

THE WORST THING ABOUT THE SURGERY IS YOUR DIRTY STICKY HAIR.

Hi M,

Thanks for sharing your experience! So far I don't seem to be getting worse

which is a good thing. The way I feel right now I can go through surgery.

I am just hoping that I stay stable or even better improve by Friday!

Congratulations, . I hope the operation went well and that you

are feeling no ill effects. Did the sore throat clear up before the

op? Now you start another countdown with the 3 weeks to go before

switch-on. Personally I found this to be the longest 3 weeks of my

life.

You should be heading to your computer about now, 7 30 Saturday

evening here :-)

Well 7.53pm ain't too bad!

Yep my CI operation went well and I am back home recovering. I was very

happy that the surgeon didn't remove any hair at all and left a very neatly

stitched incision behind my ear. I do have a little numbness at the top of

my ear and the back of my head but that's about it. My tinnitus has got a

lot worse but I had been warned this would happen and that hopefully it will

quieten down upon activation.

Yes the sore throat and head cold cleared up just in time! Things worked

out :) Will take it easy now for the next few days.
