Guest guest
Hi Jim, The Dry and Store units are used by both hearing aid users and CI users. Many if not most CI users use the dry and store for our processors to dry them and keep them conditioned and to kill germs. Has your audie not mentioned this to you? It works in the same way that the crystals are used to keep our processors dry. I have the global unit that was part of my goodie package from Cochlear. Either the dry and store can be used, the crystals (I've never seen the crystals) or the small round cedis blocks for drying the processor. When I travel, I use my splashbox with the cedis blocks. All CI processors by every manufacturer should be kept dry when not in use. Normal humidity can keep your processor from performing as it should. Here is the site on dry and store: http://www.dryandstore.com/?BISKIT=2805153613 Dixie
Guest guest
Hello Dixie ! THANKS for the explanation. Sounds like a pretty neat device. I have an AB Auria CI processor, and the storage/carrying case doubles as a drying unit (it has a built in dessicant that can be recharged in the oven). My Audie has not mentioned the need for any more drying hardware, but I will be sure to ask her about it. I have worn HA's for almost 40 years (still do on the unimplanted ear), and use a dessicant type storage jar for it (when I remember to do so). I do, however, always use the jar when I camp. I live in Wisconsin, so our climate is not as humid as in other parts of the country - maybe that is why my Audie hasn't mentioned this so far. Enjoy the LONG weekend ! Guest guest
Hi, I'm using the " rechargeable " dissecent in my dry and store and can't remember when I'm to " bake " it and how (what oven temp for how long?) Guest guest
Jackie, Blue is good. The granules will turn pink little by little and then they will need to be cooked. Mine never really all turn pink but when I see a little pink, I cook it. I cook mine at 350 for 25-30 minutes. When I take them out of the oven, I shake it a little and if there is still some pink, I will put it back for another 5-20 minutes. I also tried to bake it in the toaster oven but it doesn't work as well for me so I bake it in my regular oven. Happy Hearing! Guest guest
Hi Jackie, dark blue is good, a spesific temperature is not a must, as long as it turns dark blue. We do ours at 150 degrees Celsuis, for an hour or two. It will definitely do the trick and after a while you will do this without any worries. Good luck Altha On Fri, Apr 4, 2008 at 12:04 PM, <Flashwun@...> wrote: > Hi, > I'm using the " rechargeable " dissecent in my dry and store and can't > remember when I'm to " bake " it and how (what oven temp for how long?) > The dot is a deep blue color now. Guest guest
Hey, Ted - my Mom doesn't need a gun - she has a mouth! LOL She is what is known here in the states as a " snowbird " . She lives in the Northeast (New Jersey) in the summer and heads to Florida for the winter. She lives very close to where Carol is and we've met for lunch a few times. Now she is ready to head back North to her summer and more permanent home in NJ. As I type, she's actually waiting on a new place to be completed not far from her current place in NJ. She needs a change, so she is also trying to sell and move. Never a dull moment for my 83 year young Mom! Hope all is well there down under! ) Jackie **************Planning your summer road trip? Guest guest
Thanks Altha and Ted - for further instructions regarding the rechargable " thingy " for my dry and store. Looks like I'm good for awhile as the dot is still dark blue. But good to have this information for when I forget again when the pink starts to show up. ) Jackie **************Planning your summer road trip? Check out AOL Travel Guides. Guest guest
Good one, Jackie. I appreciate your sense of humour. Your mom sounds like a livewire. Everything is fine Down Under, thanks. Our new Prime Minister Rudd is on his World tour. He has already seen Bozo to help sort out the mess in the US of A, now he is off to the UK for tea with the Queen and to fix up the Brits problems :-). I see they organised snow for him in London. It was very thoughtful, but will just serve to make him come home a bit quicker. No snow here in Queensland. Ted F. > > Hey, Ted - my Mom doesn't need a gun - she has a mouth! Guest guest
You're welcome, Jackie. I would just use those instructions as a guide though, because I have had 2 of the tins in a 130 degree C oven for 2 hours and only one of them turned blue. I have another brand new one, that I have just ripped the top and bottom covers off and that one too, is pink. I will experiment with hotter and longer in the oven with them. I dont often use the tins, its just that my Dry & Store packed up 10 months after I got it. I got this one after my initial one packed up one year and 2 WEEKS after I received it with all my CI stuff. I dont know whether I have just been unlucky with these Dry & Store units or not. Its great piece of equipment when its working OK, but I would think they ought to last longer than the warranty period. Anyone else had any problems? I have notified my CI centre twice about it now and I haven't received a reply. This is on top of the fact that my own Freedom processor was sent back to my CI centre on February 26th to be sent to Cochlear for repair and I havent heard hide nor hair of that since. Oddly enough, the loaner Freedom hasnt missed a beat and yet its been exposed to all the same elements as my own was?? Admittedly, the weather is starting to cool down a bit nowe its Autumn, but I have had plenty of days when my own processor would have stopped working because of the sweat/moisture, but this loanes has worked well all the time. Guest guest
Hi Ted, My first unit also packed up at about 13 months(although the UV light went earlier than that!) The implant centres reply was unprintable when asked if this was unusual. Happily the free replacement(our NHS is not all bad)seems to be more reliable. We also get an automatic re-supply of free " bricks " , so all I bake is bread! Glad to hear that your freedom is still doing its duty. david > > > > Thanks Altha and Ted - for further instructions regarding the > rechargable > > " thingy " for my dry and store. Guest guest
Hello I was reading these messages at about 7 55 a.m. this morning and I suddenly remembered that I put two of the metal can desiccants back into the electric frypan at 150 degrees C at about 7 30 LAST NIGHT, because they didnt turn blue after 2 hours at about 130 C. I dashed downstairs and they were still in there and the frypan had been on all night. I wouldnt recommend this length of time, but THEY ARE BLUE NOW :-) As for my processor, you seem to know more than me. As in my message I mentioned that I sent it away on Feb 26th and I hadnt seen it since :-). The loaner however, hasnt missed a beat. Guest guest
Hello NO. As far as I know you CANNOT re-use the blocks. They have a film of paper over them anyway, which would burn or shrivel up. They can only be used until the dot gets light pink or white, then they have to be REPLACED. Thats why its a good thing to have some of the metal can desiccants as a back-up. Ted F. > > Hi Everyone, > > Its OK to " bake " the bricks till the dot turns blue, same way as " baking " the can type thingy? > > Thanks, >
Guest guest
Hi Ted, Thanks! I was about to order some more " bricks " but guess I'll go with the cans since they cost about the same anyway and can be baked repeatedly opposed to being able to use the bricks one time. Guest guest
Hi there, according to the suppliers instructions, it is not rechargeable at all. I tried the baking thing, the pink dot turned light blue, but I am too scared to try it after reading the instructions. How is it possible that you get a free supply of bricks? How can we get it here in SA? That would be totally awesome!!! Guest guest
Altha, Here in the UK, if you are lucky enough to get a CI, the National Health Service (NHS)totally supports the costs, from first testing, through implantation, to spares, repairs, upgrades and replacements. This includes things like dry-store bricks and batteries. Sadly, for those not so lucky, you certainly should not try and dry- out the disposable bricks! david (Leicester, the fox-hunting centre of England - until they banned the sport!) > > > > > > > > Thanks Altha and Ted - for further instructions regarding the > > > rechargable > > > > " thingy " for my dry and store. Guest guest
I don't think the bricks are supposed to be baked. Once they turn the wrong colour, you toss them and replace them with a new one. Which I would do in a minute if I could remember where the heck I put them. The metal thingy can be baked indefinitely, just so it keeps turning blue. But the bricks for the dry & store are use and toss. Hi Everyone, Its OK to " bake " the bricks till the dot turns blue, same way as " baking " the can type thingy? Thanks,
