Janice,

I had tinnitus when I first was activated and it was low pitch almost

like a buzz. Remapping can help some and what really help me was

changing to a faster speed but that just me. My tinnitus is slowing

going away and it only has been two months since activation. It also

takes time for the brain to get used to all that auditory input that I

now getting.

head. It might be tinnitus. Does anyone have tinnitus in this

listserve? What are your symptoms? Were the audiologist able to find

a program to help reduce the buzzing? If I get a second implant, will

it increase? I really need to know so please tell me what you have

experienced. Thank you!

Nice to have you here again, Janice. i have had high pitch tinnitus since I

was a teen, and continue to do so after bilateral CIs. They have not changed

in this sense. After my second CI surgery I experienced a low pitch buzz

tinnitus and it was for a short time and I no longer has this tinnitus but

still have the high pitch one. Everyone is different in their experience

with tinnitus. After you have had tinnitus for a while you learn to " tune "

it out. It is still there in the background, but you pay attention to more

important sounds in the environment.

Hello Janice, there will be lots of people here with varying levels of

tinnitus. Mine actually got louder for a while after I received the

C.I. but mostly went away after a couple of months. I dont notice it

when I have my processor on. Nobody knows who will and who wont get it.

Mine is at the stage now, where its still there, but it doesnt bother

me. It can be a nuisance during mapping, when I'm sometimes not sure

whether I heard a beep or not, especially on the quieter ones.

I have a buzz at the moment, when I listen for it, but I have had loud

drumming sounds and those loud beep beeps that trucks make when they

reverse. As I said, I dont notice it when I have the C.I. processor on.

Hi Janice,

I have tinnitus which appeared after I got my CI, mine is also a low

buzzing sound with an occassional beeping, most the time I don't

notice it especially if I have my CI on. I notice it mostly if I wake

in the middle of the night, I can usually tune it out though and

return to sleep. I am concerned about going bilateral as I don't know

if I want to take the chance of the tinnitus or my balance problems

becoming worse.

I have a question about that. I started to have the tinnitus when i

first had my vertigo attack and sudden hearing loss and that was

when i was in 4th grade. i've had tinnitus for almost 16 years in

my right ear but few years ago, i started to have a vibrate tinnitus

and recently it spread to my left ear. now i hear broken radio in

both ears and along with the vibration! does anyone have this? i

tried hard not to let it get to me but a lot of time it really

affects my sleeping beauty and because of lack of sleeping, i

constantly get headaches and migraines.

I'll just include this, in case it throws any light on anything

Janice. When I was first activated with my C.I. it took me a while to

get used to the static like sounds when I connect the two magnets

together and switch the C.I. on.

I hardly notice it now, it seems to go away a couple of minutes after

I attach the C.I. But it was a new thing to me then, so it was

noticeable, at first.

Cochlear can check out your implant and its possible your problem

could be fixed as simply as turning off one of the channels. I have 2

turned off and it makes no difference to me at all.

,

Thank you for the encouragement. I am thinking I have tinnitus but that is not

the main problem. It seems when i turn on the processor it buzzes. I will just

sit tight for now and wait... Will keep you all posted.

Hello Janice

I cant remember how long you have had you C.I. or how long since you

were activated.

Its possible that your tinnitus is louder now and you are noticing it

more. Could it also be the static-like noise that one gets when ones

implant is turned on, especially first thing in the morning? This

bothered me at first until my brain got used to it. I dont notice it

now unless I especially listen for it.
