Guest guest
Yikes..... when I first joined here I was slapped on the wrist for showing my satisfaction with AB....... and you stated that this site was not biased??? This is not true. CIHEAR has become a Nucleus site and this concerns me. I do not understand the bashing???? I have been trying to tie my fingers up from posting a response regarding this defensiveness but the daggers flying on keyboards is getting pretty sad.... I was always told by my audiologist that if a CI was going to be successful, that it would not really matter which device was chosen..... both companies are good. It is sooooooooooo unfortunate that both sides can't work together more effectively. Competition is good to a certain extent, but I do not understand the defensiveness that has cropped up on this listserv..... When one becomes blindsinded by personal agendas, we fail to see the facts clearly - we are spending more time trying to justify which company we feel provides the best services that you can't see the facts that are truly important. Please - both companies are giving back quality hearing to many people. Why can't we be more supportive of both companies and work together? Guest guest
FROM: bleedingpurist@... Thank you Alice. Since these studies have not been published within the public domain, that tells us they are not subject to peer review and therefore serve no useful purpose. Guest guest
What do you mean by peer review? Has the article referred to previously from AB been published anywhere else - other than on AB's website - say in a journal? What peer reviewed research supports AB's claims? Guest guest
This whole thread started when someone who was doing her research shared on the forum that she was contacted by an AB person involved in the 120 trials. Guest guest
Hi all! Trying to follow this interesting exchange, I am thwarted in the lack of citations of the studies? articles? Could someone please provide at least the title of the work, the lead researcher and date of publication in the least for the two works in contention? Also, wavering a bit off topic, I would like to address 's reply to Alice, as interjected therein with asterisks Thanks! Bob .... > Re: Advanced Bionics or Nuccleus freedom > > > FROM: bleedingpurist@... > > Thank you Alice. Since these studies have not been published within > the public domain, * , Alice stated that the study, whatever it is, was not online - there was no mention of public domain, albeit that could be subject to interpretation. that tells us they are not subject to peer review * That is presumptuous > and therefore serve no useful purpose. * Au contraire, IMHO, sir! At the least in purpose fulfilled, it stirred vibrant discussion on this list!! <G> Also, I believe that the castigation of the study is rather subjective - with no documentation referenced in support. There are no peer reviewed research studies that support Cochlear's claims. * Per who? We must presume these claims to be false until proven independently and consistently. * I beg your pardon! WE? You mean ME? The claim is preposterous - that scientific research should be presumed false e until proven otherwise! Yes, peer review is a part of any paper, but the that should banish any work to the hopper on that criterion alone. Just my opinions tonight...no offense to any, please. Guest guest
Pam, Excellent point and I concur completely with you that we should work together, unforunatly this is just one of those subjects that breeds strong emotions and naturally the personal bias takes over. The list owner and mods want to promote cooperation and unbiased sharing of information but that is not always what gets posted. We could moderate every post or edit comments that we feel are biased but I don't think that is what anyone wants!!! I have always tried to present fair and factual information - unless I am expressing a " Personal Opinion " which I always make perfectly clear, and I would like to encourage everyone to try to do the same. If you want to comment on your own experience or Implant please be fair and stick to facts you (and we all) can verify making claims or shooting down a company / device you don't have experience with only causes problems and makes others defensive and that's when these brand wars get out of hand. Please take a minute to review the message on the front page of the group... <small excerpt> is not brand specific thus brand wars, spam and/or marketing will not be permitted here. Offensive messages will be deleted and the sender's priviliges will be changed to moderated. Our goal is to be a good mix of friends with a common interest and to learn from each other. I hope this post does not offend anyone but the purpose of this group is to help each other and we seem to get off track every so often. I believe I have said before there is no way to fairly compare teh CI brands, they are different but they all work and that is why we have gone through the testing, surgery & rehab so lets stick to supporting each other and those to come and try to stay away from comparing (and ultmately bashing). OK enough of my ranting please lets play nice... Guest guest
Pam, Its humanly impossible to be unbiased. That said, we can accept the differences among us. Neither AB user nor Cochlear user is exempt from being overly proud of its choice. That does not excuse the defensiveness, yet, neither brand can deny its there. But if one is truly certain of the choice made, why become defensive at all? Its not necessary. And, why is it necessary to jump on this every time there is some dissent? I see this phenomena on almost every list I am or have been on. I call it editorializing. Its a waste of bandwidth. Each list has an owner and at least one moderator. Let them do their jobs. Take it for granted, this list is no different, and will continue to enjoy the bumps along the way. It also will see smooth sailing as well. Guest guest
I went back to the original post and I don't see where she says that she was contacted by an AB person and given inaccurate information on the Cochear device. Guest guest
Kim, Now I am confused because I thought this was the original post.... Were you " this wonderful person? " " Hi everyone The other day I told you about my scheduled surgery and that I chose the nucleus freedom implant. I did like the AB better in terms of design and also the company's presentation. I chose the freedom because for the water repellant issue and Forum - where most of you appears to use a nucleus. I received this mail from a wonderful person who told me she had talked a few persons who had both a nucleus and, took part in the trial for the AB 120, and they said that the AB was much better in clarity. She also told me that she had spoken to many AB implanters who only had good things to say about the comany.Moreoever, AB offers FREE upgrades whereas Nucleus does not - SO now I am in total confusion. Am I choosing the best with Nuleus Freedom? Should I go for AB after all? HOW do you choose?? Both my doctor and the audie seemed to have a slight preference towards nucleus freedom, although the audie said that she cannot recommend one brand for the other. How did all of you people choose?? Now I am lingering towards changing my order..... And, moreover, how important has the water-resistant/sweat proof element been to you? Have there been days where you have been thinking, thank God that I chose the freedom due to the water proof issue? I have small kids and we are kind of active - like to play with water, go in a boat and so on.. I thought I had made the perfect choice - now I am not so sure!! Any advice? Anyone there with the AB? or with both? Grateful for any comments!! Tine
Guest guest
Hi Carol Nope I'm not the wonderful person (although I hope that tem could be used by some on this list). I honestly do not know of anyone that has a Nucleus device and also an AB device and was in the 120 trial. But let the truth be known that I am out of date on things in the AB world and there may be just this type of person out there. Carol - are YOU sure you have your forums correct though??? I went back through the archieve and THIS posting is no where to be found! So PLEASE tell me where YOU found this post? Guest guest
Tine's post was Message #46529 And it said: I am new to this site - and perhaps this question is not the appropriate place to ask this question, but I try anyway. I am to be implanted in September and I chose the Nucleus freedom due to the fact it is water resistant, and I heard much good about it. However, I also like the AB and what they have to say in its brochures - and I asked my audie about the hiresolution and she said that yes, it is good, but you may not even want or need that fast speed for your " hearing " . And freedom had more electrodes. However, with the new 120 AB i think AB may have more. SO now I am in total doubt whether to go for the AB or nucleus!! Any advice??????? Guest guest
Kim, The subject was the same as on the thread but I really do not remember where this post came from. It was from Tine and just hit a really sour note with me because the information she was given was extremely biased and wrong. How about if we each just give facts about our own implant and how we hear with it .... good or bad..... and really tell about the things we like and don't like about our own rather than trying to bash the others. Guest guest
Kim - Please do not let emails like this stop you from trying to keep people focused on the facts. I appreciate the way you monitor posts and attempt to make people accountable for inaccurate statements about both devices - this helps separate opinions from facts. I know that a lot of AB users have stopped posting and being involved with CI Hear. I have learned a lot from CI Hear, and I hate to see this forum be Nucleus only, where AB users feel so intimidated that they must " take the high road. " I sense your frustration and share your frustration. It is not a matter of your being aggressive, but rather stating facts that some people do not want posted. Hang in there..... Guest guest
Please, please, please....let's just share information, and not argue about which devise is better. There are so many issues facing all of us no matter what brand cochlear implant we've chosen. I'm not a do gooder, just someone trying to get some information from a group of cochlear recipients. Thank you. M.
Guest guest
My post were not showing up last night so I assumed that I wsa one moderator status once again. I never know when I get placed on it; and when a post takes over an hour to appear I make that assumption. All I was seeking was to find out the post in which an AB CI user made incorect statements. The post mentioned was not even on this forum; so I guess if something happens anywhere on forums it's okay to criticize AB people here. Guest guest
Carol-- I think that that post was posted on the Nucleus forum. Snoopy Re: Advanced Bionics or Nuccleus freedom Carol I looked everywhere on this list - where did you find this post? I don't think this post was posted here and I do NOT think that people on this list should be accused for something they did NOT do! Facts please.... that is all I am asking Kim B Advanced Bionics CI > > Kim, > Now I am confused because I thought this was the original post.... > Were you " this wonderful person? Guest guest
Kim, You said " My post were not showing up last night so I assumed that I wsa one moderator status once again. ___I never know when I get placed on it___; and when a post takes over an hour to appear I make that assumption. " Doesnt that tell you something? You allow yourself to become aggressive and the list is not the place to let this happen. Make an appearance on the Jerry Springer show instead. As I said before, people make mistakes, dont take it personal. You dont like being criticized...again, it works both ways. Take the high road. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* Law of Logical Argument: Anything is possible if you don't know what you are talking about. & Dreamer Doll (Guide Dawggie) Newport, Oregon N24C 3G 8/2000 Hookup rclark0276@... http://webpages.charter.net/dog_guide/
Guest guest
Grow up, Kim. You are giving AB a bad name. Guest guest
- wow, I like your idea about working together. All of us want to have cochlear implants. Right? If yes, why complain or whine about it. We all are on the same boat because we want cochlear implants and be able to hear better. My friend gave me an example that it is like pick the different brand of cars - ford, chev, honda, etc. and it is same idea with cochlear implant. We do not complain or whine about cars and separate other people who drove certain of cars. We are all on the same boat and we should HELP each others no matter what.
