Guest guest
Thanks Connie! Here I was in the middle of washing clothes and all of our power went out. It was kind of a blessing because I was able to sit down and read part of a great book to the kids instead of running around like crazy. It only lasted about 2 hours. If it lasted much longer I would have gotten pretty worried. The house was getting cold and I couldn't heat any food. Now, I'm back to getting everything done..... Guest guest
Oh thank you sweet Rashelle. I needed that encouragement today. I am home with sick kids. My poor little baby is running a high fever and her thumb (which she sucks) is infected. She is miserable. Thanks again for the kind words. Guest guest
Liz, I am glad to hear that she is feeling better. Fevers always scare me. Even though, I know that they are there to help your body fight infection and bacteria. My baby is just now 14 months old. I really don't want to take her to the doctor because I don't want them to put her on antibiotics. I get so much pressure from family though. My son who just turned 8 is also sick but near the end of it and is feeling okay. My oldest daughter (who is 11) and my son sucked their thumbs or fingers until this spring. I told them that whoever went 3 weeks without sucking their parts would get $20. Boy, that did it. They stopped right away and never went back to it. They just had to decide to break the habit and create a new habit. I am so glad that it worked. I was getting a little worried about my oldest. She rarely sucked her thumb, but I was getting concerned.
Guest guest
Liz, That is so cute that decided when she would quit. Yes, the kids have runny noses too. My main concern was for my baby 's thumb. It is infected and she is sucking it even more than normal because she doesn't feel good. I am not going to take her in though. I am learning so much about herbs and natural healing and I am going to keep trying to apply what I have learned and watch her. I don't go to the doctor unless it is severe. In fact, my son , has never been to the doctor since his well baby checkups. Well, he did once for Pinkeye that he got from his sister but that was it. It is nice to have healthy kids. My oldest was constantly on antibiotics from one thing or another (ears, sinuses, etc...). It wasn't until we changed the way we ate that things started chaning. Now, we very rarely get sick and it is never bad enough to go to the doctor. Thanks for your encouragement Liz, I sure appreciate you. Guest guest
The virus that your kids seem to have is just like what we have, I had it last week. Did your kids have a cough or sniffles with it? I wouldn't worry about taking your baby to the doctor right now unless she's pulling at her ears or something. The fever will probably just go away like your other 2 children. When was a baby she got quite a few ear infections until we starting feeding her yogurt everyday, I don't know why this helped her but it really did. I think she's had one ear infection since then and she's almost 7. Just a thought. I also have an 11 yr old. His name is . Thanks for the tip of breaking your kids finger sucking habit, told me that she would stop when she turns 7 which is in April, but I know that it won't be easy. I may just try your technique. Thanks! Guest guest
Thanks Connie. I always need encouragement in this area. I have several friends that do the same thing as me but my family is very traditional in their thinking. They are not very supportive at all. For example, my sister stopped by yesterday and looked at my baby 's thumb. She said, " You need to take her to the doctor, she could lose her thumb. " Oh my word!!! I know what to look for long before she would ever possibly lose it. By the way, it is already looking better thanks to the herbs I have been using on it along with the Yarrow tea she has been drinking. I am so glad and relieved. Guest guest
Thanks Melinda. I used that on my daughter when she started to get an ear infection and it cleared it right up. I stopped using it because I heard so much negative about how it kills everything-including the good stuff. So for something like her thumb would you just pour in onto it or are you talking about taking it internally? Thanks,
Guest guest
, We've used colloidal silver very well on infections like that. It might be worth a try. Melinda ) Re: We're back! Guest guest
I would pour it on her thumb, . I read some of the things about the silver killing everything, even the good, but I've read some info to the contrary, too. It has worked wonders for us, so we use it, like other things in our life - in moderation. We have a silver generator so it costs just pennies to make - if you buy it, you might want to dab it on with a cotton ball. Melinda ) Re: We're back! Thanks Melinda. Guest guest
We do both. So the healing can come from the inside and the outside. We saturate the wound with it. Guest guest
I'm glad you piped in, Jenni!! Yes, I failed to add, we would probably do both, too. We've not had any problems from using the colloidal silver. In fact, I give it to my kids on Mondays after we're at our homeschool co-op. With our 10 yos's migraines/abdominal migraines, we just can't afford to have him getting sick. It throws him into some nasty migraine patterns. The kids are rarely sick. Melinda ) Re: We're back! Guest guest
Did you know it is also wonderful for acne? My 16 year old has rarely had a pimple because of the silver. As soon as he gets a " hot spot " he puts silver on it for a few days and most times they don't even erupt. I love seeing his beautiful face His brother's want to know why I never used it on them....I just had never heard of it. Soon as I read about it...wham, it started going on his face at the first sign. Just another 2 cents LOL with love, Jenni Proud Air Force Mom! May God guide and protect our troops! Re: We're back! Guest guest
That's a use I hadn't thought of!! I'll be sure and use it for my sons. That's good, inexpensive treatment, I think! Our 16 yod has an occasional eruption here or there, but really needed it about 4 years ago. Melinda ) Re: We're back! Thanks Melinda. Guest guest
I raised 6 children -- 4 of them were born at home (with no doctor/midwife) -- and they almost never saw a doctor. This was in part because we were too poor, in part because my then-husband didn't believe in doctors, and in part because I don't believe in over-medication. We took our first daughter for regular doctor visits when she became type-1 diabetic (age 10); also broken bones were set, inguinal hernias were repaired, dentists were regularly visited -- but not once did any of my children have an ear infection -- not EVER! -- and I attribute that to no antibiotics screwing up their systems (I'm referring to the then-practice of prescribing them for colds, sniffles, everything!), as healthy eating as we then understood and could afford (a lot of fresh baked breads, homegrown vegetables, meat was from hunting and we raised rabbits, milk and eggs from a friend who raised them, etc.). Today my children are all adults, and are remarkably healthy -- my oldest is still type-1 diabetic and has related problems, but that is genetic. The others don't get the flu, seldom have colds... Some of them are starting to develop weight problems, but that's another story! I guess what I'm trying to say, amid all this rambling, is that doctoring for real problems is necessary and good (and thank god for our doctors!) -- but a healthy child does NOT need medicaiton, does NOT need to be viewed as sickly, does NOT need to live in a sterile environment (my kids were always dirty -- they played outside, climbed trees, dug holes -- didn't own a TV while they were growing up). So treat your little one's thumb as you see fit, and don't worry about others!!! And I'm at the end of my soapbox! Bonnie ________________________________ From: faytk@... Guest guest
Bonnie, What a wonderful, wonderful childhood you gave your kiddos! I have to laugh when I think about them being *dirty*! When our dd was born, I practically sterilized the air she breathed. By the time my sons were born, I had *wised up* and realized that they wouldn't become deathly ill from a dropped binky! LOL I tend to think less, and simple is often more. I think your success with your children is very good testimony to that! Love, Melinda ) Re: We're back! Thanks Connie.
