Well, I say PEN for a writing instrument...lol.

My cleaning lady is from Mexico and she was telling me what her plans were for

New Years Eve. Her husband was going to cook some dish that started with a B.

I asked her what that was, b/c I never heard of it. She was trying hard to

think of the English translation and finally said " cow head " . She said he cooks

it for 8-10 hours. It didn't dawn on me until later that she meant cow brains!!

I pick up accents very easily with my implant.

You know, today in the Seattle Times, front page, there is an article about

Northwest dialect,, maybe you can pick up MY accent!

Lee

Suprised to find out that our COT and CAUGHT sound the same in the NW,

everywhere else, natives say it differently.

Hi Patsy,

I'm all for library tapes and read along books rather than listening

practice on something. That way you can vary the hearing, rather than

listening to the same thing over and over.

I can understand most accents. The one that absolutely, positively is

impossible for me to understand is East Indian. I can be looking at the

person and not get it. I understand people with Dutch, New York,

English, French, and even South African accents. But East Indian just

sounds so sing song to me. And sad to say, if you have a problem with

your computer, your on line service, OR your local telephone, the person

who answers the phone is in New Delhi or somewhere close by. So I rely

on e mail for those problems.

9 years post implant, still can't get the East Indian accents. But my

neighbors with typical hearing don't understand them either!!

, I got some learning tapes from the library but I'm afraid they

are

the wrong kind so I'm going back again tomorrow to get some others. And

thanks about the accent I'm not very good with accents at all. Thro I'm

an

excellent lip reading accents still get me. Patsy
