Guest guest
Kent and whoever... It's not an infection with me. It may be allergies or sinus. I don't know. I stopped taking traditional nose drops because they dried out the nasal cavity and caused nose bleeds. I now use homeopathic to hear clear the sinuses. I don't know it they work. I can't stand loud background noise and I turn down the sensitivity on my processor. I go from program 1 to program 2 (which is louder) as the day progresses, and sometimes I wake up in the morning and program 1 is too loud and I have to turn down the volume. I had this same problem with my hearing aids (when I could still hear) that the sounds were constantly changing. Today I couldn't understand any speech at all. I am so frustrated because it's been 6 months since I was " turned on. " I know my audiologist is doing his best, and it's me, not the processor, not the audiologist. I could hear on the phone a few months ago, but can't now. Has anyone who is reading this also had this variable in hearing as I have besides Kent who has kindly responded, and if so, what did you do about it. I go for mappings at least once a month, but by the second week after the mapping I can't hear again. I am grateful not to be completely deaf, but I'd sure like to hear better than I've been doing. Guest guest
To Whomever, I do see my audiologist often. I have seen three Ear, Nose and Throat doctors. No one sees anything or any reason for the problems I have about changing sounds. It may somehow be diet related and I'm going to try and cut down on dairy and chocolate. Thank you for the response. Guest guest
I regret that I have not experienced what you are experiencing. I would recommend seeing some doctors. Get some allergy testing done to see if anythig can be done if this is allergy related. See a doctor if you feel you have an ear infection - leaving an ear infection untreated could be a challenge to treat. Decreasing in one's ability to hear to the degree that you are describing needs the attention of an audiologist. I hope you will schedule an appointment with your clinic. I hope this is just the need of a new map from adjusting to sound - as if I recall you have only bee hooked up for six months now Kim B Advanced Bionics CI > > Kent and whoever... > > It's not an infection with me. Guest guest
Hi Colleen, I am quite sorry to hear that you are still having a hard time hearing with your CI especially when you are chronically experiencing either allergy or sinus. I can quite understand that you can not understand the speech when the sounds are different all the time. It is frustrating not to be able to adjust to the sounds as quickly as possible! I recently had a very hard time understanding my dad when I shouldn't be. I hope that your audiologist is referring you to a medical consultant to figure out what is causing your illness. My audiologist is making me an appointment with a doctor after I described my current condition and how I heard the sounds. Like you said, she thinks that it is either allergy or sinus that is causing the change in my hearing. Have you had something like allergy or sinus before you were implanted? I remembered getting ear infections when I had hearing aids (with molds), but that was quite common for many people. I used to take a shower, and put on the hearing aids right away. I didn't allow the ear canal to dry naturally. The ear infection would last two weeks before it healed. This is definitely not an ear infection for me, and it is more of an earache. In other words, it feels like that there are new nerves being exposed. I remember feeling this way when I started wearing the processor. I hope that you are getting some medical attention for your condition like I am right now. Guest guest
That is quite interesting that three ENT doctors were not able to identify your illness. How often do you get allergy or sinus? Guest guest
-- have you tried an allergist? That is a doctor who specialize in allergies. I have severe allergies and am on flonase which is a nasal spray and have kept this blessed nose clear for a week now and it is now generic. I also will take alavert which is over the counter when needed. My pulmonary doctor said that this season is going to be very bad because of the winter and spring that we have had in New England. But I never get any fever at all so never know but I am still on allergy medicines from doctor. But right now we are working on and they are getting some medical attentions on my conditions and me. Guest guest
Coleen, Thank you for your feedback. Perhaps it time to get tested for allergies.
Guest guest
Kent, Thank you for your response, and sharing your experiences. I am going to pursue allergy testing in the very near future. I always get sinus infections, and I'm beginning to think this may be the cause of the changing sounds.
Guest guest
, I don't think it is not good idea for me to take tested for allergies again. But few years ago i seen allergist dr and he could not do anything and just check and about medicines. New nurse told me kept allergy medicines off for one week before seen allergic specialist dr and allergic dr did not do test on me but I did got very sick that day when I seen allergic specialist dr and said no more skip allergic medicines if see allergic specialist again next time. But I am allergic to many things and everything in one state where i live but mostly in spring and fall seasonals are the worst thing. But my regular md dr know what I am allergic and they keep allergic test list that what I am allergic but even i am allergic to trees, pollens, grasses, woods, few animals like cat, dog, horses and few other thing, molds, dusts, and many things. If I take allergic test then have to be keep allergy medicines off for 7 days before see allergy specialist for test then that day I would get very really sick quick and easy. That why allergy specialist dr said no more not skip the doses for long time a week and he would not do test on me anymore because I already took one before and it keeps record in my regular md dr files. But I do take FLU shots every seasonal but I took FLU shot end of Feb after my oral suregey then got very sick with came down with flu. But I still need FLU shots because i am not easy deal with healths and work with children so Flu shot is better for me to take every year now. Thanks Colleen > > Coleen, > > Thank you for your feedback. Perhaps it time to get tested for allergies. > > > >
Guest guest
Colleen, Wow! You have been through a lot! I know someone who is a dear friend of mine, and she has CI. She gets sick all the time, and has numerous allergies. She tells me that it is very hard for her to hear well, to keep up mapping appointments, and to stay healthy. Her health seriously affects her hearing and mappings. I'm truly sorry to hear that it's hard for you. Guest guest
Snoopy, Thank you for your advise. I am going to see my Internest and will ask for a referral to an allergist.
