Debbie,

Poor baby! All I can say is, OUCH! Wish I could help, but I thought Desitin would do the trick! Maybe the Doc can rx something? Hope your not up to your elbows all weekend and Abby gets better soon!

Debbie,

I can VERY much relate to your problem. has had some KILLER diaper

rashes. Even though she is off formula I still give her Isomil Diarhea

formula when the problem is severe. You can also go with the BRAT diet.

B=Bananas, R=Rice, A=Apples, T=Toast (did I get that right for those of you

who know about this?). As far as diarhea medicine most peds won't really

recommned any. I have spoken with a pharmacist about diarhea meds and he said

we could give some Immodium. Check with the pharmacist about dosage.

OK, for the rash here is what we would do. Avoid diaper wipes because of the

alcohal or buy the kind with aloe. A warm wet wash cloth is better. You can

use a small amount of triple antibiotic cream since the rash is severe, but

only three times a day. I used the antitiotic cream on the really bad spots

and then covered the whole bottom with butt paste and then even a layer of

vaseline to really seal out moisture. Watch for a yeast infection - small

white looking bumps. If this occurs then you can use a anti-fungal cream

topically (like Mycelex or something like that) and that kills the problem

quickly. Oh, Pampers makes a Rash Relief diaper that we used only when the

rash was really bad.

Whew - that was a lot of information - probably more then you needed!! Poor

Abby - I always feel SOOOO bad when has a bad rash!! :-( Here's hoping

for a speedy recovery.

I didn't mention that, but I think airing out the buns is probably one of the

BEST remedies! The benefits of bare buns far outway the drawbacks of cleaning

up a little pee-pee. LOL!!

Marci,

What is butt paste? You mentioned vaseline later, so i know that's not it, so now I'm really interested (interested in butt paste, man has my life changed :o)

Debbie:

Take her off of milk until the diarrhea goes away. Slippy-doo's can flush out the little bacteria that take care of lactose in our digestive systems - then the diarrhea doesn't quit because the body becomes temporarily lactose intolerant.

As for the rash, you might want to get it checked. It may be a yeast infection. My niece gets it all the time (poor thing). A little Canestin will do the trick.

Good luck! Poor Abby! :o(

Subject: OT-Diarrhea & rash help

Poor Abby has had diarrhea since Monday now & her poor butt is soooo bad, I've used Desitin, corn starch powder, you name it. Tried that magic/miracle butt cream home remedy - but I know the rash won't go away til the diarrhea goes away. What can I give her? I'm waiting for a call back from the ped.. She's not on juice, fruits, she's on a very bland diet. The poor kid just screams & squirms when I change her. Her butt is literally bleeding a bit now from the rash, breaks my heart :'(. And my hubby's gone for the weekend, poor me. Any advice would be appreciated. Can I give her childrens maalox maybe? She's 20 mos old & weighs a whopping 34 lbs or so. Hmm, I just go to the pharmacy and ask for butt paste and that is actually

what the packaging says!! It is not over the counter. The pharmacist has to

prepare it for you. It is some good stuff. It is kind of light brown in color

and has a consistency kind of like Desitin. That is pretty much all we use

for diaper rash!

Okay Debbie here is an old folks remedy for diarrhea,

My mom uses it all the time. Don't know if you have

access to them but, you take a tortilla and let it

almost burn on the stove and then you soak in water

and make a tea out of it. My mother did give it to my

niece when she was a baby and it helped...Good

luck...wishing lil Abby poo a speedy recovery. Oh and

Marci & all:

That was not way too much info Marci, thanks a lot, I need all the

help I can get. I did put one coat of Neosporin on the really bad

spot this morning. I wonder if those rash guard diapers help, that's

all my friends use on their son & he's never had much trouble

w/rashes. Abby had this exact problem at this exact same time last

year - then her diarrhea lasted one month, holy cow, it was aweful

too, she blew out of her diapers then (not yet now, knock on wood), I

threw away so many onesies (I didn't feel like rinsing them & stuff,

it wasn't worth it to me!! hehe). I did give her the Isomil DF last

year too. Maybe she doesn't like November???

I appreciate everyone's input. Dr. did say I could give her 1/4

tsp of children's kaeopectate a day, here's hoping something helps my

peanut :(. Thanks so much!!!

I do not know much about what you can do about the poops but, I have a few ideas about the rash.

I used a cream mixture of fresh aloe(squished out of a plant) and I mixed it with J & J rash cream. It

helped alot when Livia had a weeping case of regular diaper rash. Airing out her poor bottom is a very

good idea as well. If you have a plastic tablecloth, put it out on the floor and lay her down on it. Lay

down next to her on the floor and maybe read her some stories to keep her still(?) .

I used the tablecloth with Livia when she was just starting to crawl,

but It might work on a toddler if you are really concerned about the carpet.

If it is a yeast rash, you can ask your pharmicist for a cream for it. There is a cream that is less

expensive than Canesten, but you have to ask for it. When Livia had the yeast rash, it went away

in a few days after putting on the cream twice a day. Yeast rash is usually not painful for the baby,

so if it is bothering her alot, then it could be something else.

A face cloth(I use shop towells , disposable yet like a cloth) dipped in water mixed with baking soda

for cleaning up the messy poops will also help sooth her bum, and is alot less harsh than using wipes.

I hope this helps. And of course I have to mention how wonderful it is for your hubby to go out of town when

Abby gets sick & grumpy! lol Did he time that great or what! I hope Abby is feeling much better soon.
