Guest guest
I think AB made it clear by posting that Supplier A is NOW being used and stated that individuals can expect similar reliability percentages for the PRESENT devices being implanted with new customers....... I wish that we could get past the " old news " , as past recalls were addressed and fixed by the company, in my opinion. Drumming up the past can " twist " facts and influence opinions, which polarizes people and the bashing starts all over again, and again, and again...... Guest guest
Here we go again. Those figures are twisted. They mention tens of thousands of people choosing AB and yet choose to use only the last 12 months figures from Supplier A. Supposedly Supplier B was the one that supplied all the stuff that was recalled. Are they planning on showing a graph for Supplier B's reliability? They are fiddling the books and trying to hoodwink the public, if they dont use ALL the numbers. Before someone jumps down my throat, this post isnt about brand bashing, its asking and expecting the true figures to be posted, not just the ones that show AB in a good light and the ones they want the public to see. Did I say I was back :-) Ted F. > > hi all - you can also look into AB's reliability stats at the > foklowing link -- > http://www.bionicear.com/printables/reliabilityreport2006fall.pdf > > its looking better all the time! > > Mike Royer > www.bionicear.com > http://hearmike.googlepages.com/home > >
Guest guest
Pam, if I read all the hullabaloo corectly..... I don't think Ted was bashing or twisting the facts. I think what Ted was trying to say was that when you state statistics and make general statements on reliability, all of the factors (in this case - implants) should be included. If they talk about the reliability of those implants where only supplier A was used, then it should be stated somewhere in the statistical analysis (or as a disclaimer) that those implants which used supplier B were not included. That would be more prudent. Happy Hearing! Guest guest
Tens of thousands? I wonder if they can narrow it down to exactly? Possible? I dso believe that for reliability stats to be meaningful, especially in regard to cochlear implants., one would want to see the stats over the course of the company's making the devices, and not specific modeks or specific time frames. Long term figures would seem more meaningful. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* When I hear somebody sigh, " Life is hard, " I am always tempted to ask, " Compared to what? Guest guest
True, but you cannot compare the Cochlear Freedom or the AB Auria or Harmony with older models and technology. Guest guest
Gerald, What is missing from the report is numbers, real numbers. There are no real numbers being crunched in this report. And no one is trying to compre models. That is not what reliability is about. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* My wife and I divorced over religious differences. Guest guest
You can, as regards reliability. Good reliability is a long term thing, not a short term one. Ted F. >Tens of thousands? Guest guest
Welcome back Ted, Good to have you, but I don't understand what the fuss is about posting stats so new patients can know accurate info about what they are getting. All 3 company's have published separate stats for each model they made, and AB wasn't the first to separate out implants modifed because of a quality control measure. It's a standard way to publish complete statistical information. In the link below, there are stats for Children on 3 models that are distinct from adult stats. The second model also has pre and post-modification stats where the it says: " Post Modification refers to devices with a strengthened case " http://www.cochlearamericas.com/pdfs/nrdecjan.pdf This is a normal way of posting statistics, and it's helpful because it shows that a quality control effort worked. It's something new patients should want to know. Neither company is doing anything wrong. Sincerely, Steve > > > > hi all - you can also look into AB's reliability stats at the > > foklowing link -- > > http://www.bionicear.com/printables/reliabilityreport2006fall.pdf > > > > its looking better all the time! > > > > Mike Royer > > www.bionicear.com > > http://hearmike.googlepages.com/home > > > > >
Guest guest
Hello Steve Thanks for the welcome back. That is an excellent document you posted. I think stats ARE important and its also important that all manufacturers use the exact same methods, in their reporting. Its been said before, but if one was buying a new motor car, one would never do so, without a test drive. This isnt possible with a C.I. so IMO its important that there is enough correct data out there, for people to do their research. I had looked for this document myself, but didnt find it. So, the data should be made easier for prospective implantees to get hold of, to read. Now, is there any chance that someone will print the AB and Med-El charts, with their COMPLETE figures on, please? Then, when all this information is out in the public domain, perhaps it could be put on the website, for people to make their own comparisons and draw their own conclusions, without being subjected to the advertising 'slants' of the major companies. Informed choice, thats what most people want to be able to have. As long as they are comparing apples with apples. Guest guest
Perhaps we should consider the FDA stats as the Consumers Reports of Cochlear Implants and check them out before we decide which implant to get. Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Happy Hearing!
