Guest guest
Hi , This is precisely why this forum exists. To dispel rumors from the uneducated. Imagine a person who doesn't have an implant telling someone what it does or doesn't do. NO A COCHLEAR IMPLANT WILL NOT CAUSE MIGRAINES. If, as you pointed out in your message, a person has a history of migraines, it won't make them any better either. But give me a break. All the nonsense going on about implants. Many people with hearing loss have tinnitus. Many people without hearing loss have it as well. the CI seems to help with it. Set that man straight. The Original Is this a CI misconception or is there some truth to it? This morning I dropped my kids off at the sitters as usual. My sitter and I always chat a few minutes in the morning before I kiss the kids goodbye and go. She was telling me that the mother of one of the kids there is dating a very nice guy who wears bilateral hearing aids. She pointed out to him that my daughter wore hearing aids as well and now has a CI on her left side and HA on her right. Apparently he got up on the proverbial soap box and started to give reasons why the implant was not a good idea. The main thing he " preached " about was that the CI causes the recipient to have terrible migraine headaches. She of course told him how much it has helped my daughter and how in just a few months she has changed so much in terms of hearing, listening and language. That she hasn't experienced any negatives with the CI to this point. She said that they argued nicely back and forth for quite a while and she got the last word in just supporting the positives with the CI. So my question is does the CI cause severe headaches? At first I thought no, but I also didn't want to say something that wasn't true. I know of one CI recipient who gets migraines, but had them even before the CI. I have also heard from many here that they may suffer tinnitus, but that the CI seems to help with that. Is this person hearing some CI myths or am I disillusioned? Please enlighten me! (And should I be prepared for my daughter to start having migraines? I sure hope not!) Thanks in advance!
