I am especially touched when I visit the oral school here and see the very young children with their CI's conversing with one another with ease. Guest guest Posted December 1, 2004 Report Share Posted December 1, 2004 When I got ss and they raised the amount I received to 674.00 I had to pay a spenddown of 94.00 anything you get over 564.00 you have to pay as a spend down and I know that I am not going to get that now or will have to pay much more than I would ever be able to. The caseworker told me I could not get medicare. So I am stuck up the creek without a paddle. I am going to be able to afford only a few of the medication that I need unless I can get some kind of program to pay into . Just got to figure out all this stuff because I never had to worry about it. I am 62 so it will be three years before I qualify for medicare. I am going to check into the disability part for medicare but they told me it would be two years before I could qualify for it. I didnt figure that one out either!!!! Are you sure you can't qualify for medicare because of your disability? I believe you are over 55. Otherwise - we'll just have to find you a good insurance but that depends on what is available in Indiana.
