Hi Steve!

Welcome! first thing is, have you visited a specialist yet?

That is top key into getting treated, properly!

When you are " new " to this " A " , stuff can be confusing. People are

great here! so ask what is bothering you, and don't forget to go into

past messages, great stuff can be found there.

Hi Potts,

Has your Dr. ever done an xray recently of the sinus cavity around the eyes and nose??? I'm wondering if your passage is too small??? You must be miserable this time of the year :o( What are you allergic too??? Are you on a breathing machine for your asthma???

((( Caring Hugs )))

I too have been off line for about a week so I alsohad to delete about 10 days worth of digests. Iscanned one a few days ago & saw that one of youwanted to know about me. Well here goes: As a child I always had colds, ear aches, etc. Myfolks made sure that I got to the doctor when neeed. Then I went through a time during my teenage yearswhen I really wasn't sick. When I got married, myhusband was a smoker & it affected my health. I wasdiagnosed with allergies & asthma and have beendealing with it for 12 years now. My husband finallyquit smoking about 3 1/2 years ago & it didn't reallyhelp me. I never seem to get rid of one sinusinfection before another comes along. Finally thispast January, my allergist decided that it was time totry a therapy called IVIG. That should boost myimmune system, and will start once my health insurancedecides that I really need to have it.For fun, I sing in my church's choir (have done thatsince I was a kid too) and enjoy watching hockeygames. My husband and I don't have any children, butare Aunt & Uncle to 3 from my sister, and HonoraryAunt & Uncle to 4 more kids (from friends). Potts

Hi Tom... and welcome...

What works for you natural medicine wise? My protocol has been mostly diet and supplements... I take a slew of them,... but they keep me going and functional.. For depression I sware by B-12 and B-6 injections... they work like a charm for me..Ariadne

One in my toe the other the head. For my gout, I ride it out. But it is extremely painful, something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. I try not to take medication if I can help it because of the side effects; besides, they haven't been of much help. For depression, likewise. It's a matter of time before I get back on track. The thing I don't like about the latter is that it takes an outside event to do so. In the meantime, I've caused a lof of worry and sorry to my friends, not to mention bills being unpaid until I right myself.Besides proper diet and exercise, I tend to go with holistic means to cure my ills. __________________

So far, I really like it here, and I love how supportive people are of each other.

I'm glad you do! I love it here too - all the gals are great.

I've been told all my life I was overweight, even as a little kid. THen one day, I found some pictures of me as a kid, and to my great shock, I wasn't overweight. But by third grade I was. I was teased and made fun of a lot growing up, and my parents solution was to comfort me with food: cookies, ice cream, candy, fudge...whatever we had that I wanted. By third grade, I really was fat. In 9th grade, I passed the 200# mark. And I just kept getting bigger.

I never had a "problem" until getting out of school and getting married, starting a family. Really. I weighed 170 when I got married and even during pregnancy(s) didn't gain - I weighed the same the day I delivered as when I got pregnant, so it was all baby. You would have thought I would keep it off when losing the initial what, 20 lbs after baby born LOL... but no!! Stress, etc breeds pounds and I would gain after each pregnancy....

Today, I find myself weighing in (last time I was on a scale) at 314#s. This is the heaviest I've ever been. To be honest, it scares me. I know it's unhealthy, for me, because I lead a sedentary lifestyle with little to no exercise and lots of sweets.

310 was my top weight, other than the handful of pounds I am up post-Thanksgiving and illness, I am down 31 lbs (1st 10%) - you can do it!!

I'm scared he's going to put me on insulin next. Some of the changes I've made is less sweets, switching to Splenda and diet soda, and eating healthier meals. This past spring I worked my butt off preparing a garden, but didn't do much during the summer when it was hot as the heat makes me sick.

Good for you - if you get the numbers down - and the weight - the doc might be able to pull you off the meds and skip the insulin.

Now the weather, for a few more days anyway, is nice enough to go on walks, but nobody will go with me and it's boring by myself. I can't join a gym because I don't have the money. (I'm on disability for other reasons.) I'd love a treadmill, but again, no money for it.

Have you looked at the Y? Someone on here I think mentioned the possibility of getting a scholarship?? Otherwise, buck up and walk by yourself. I agree it is more fun with a buddy, you have someone to talk with etc, but at least alone you don't have to listen to their whining and complaining about the weather, excuses, etc. Is there a freecycle group in your area? If so, you may be able to get a treadmill gifted to you.... I got one of those mini trampolines from the group in my area. I do a ton of walking and going to Curves, so haven't used my trampoline in awhile. You mention not being able to go to a gym cuz of money - look at your finances - it could be as easy as giving up a coffee drink once a week or a trip to the drive thru. When I joined Curves I made a goal and promise to myself to make it work and not quit because of money. I pay $32 something a month, which when you look at it all at once it does seem a lot (to me) but I told my co-workers "no more lunches out" - they hate it, but I stick to it.

Ok. Think. What do I have that I can use or do? I could walk in place...boring, but probably effective...Sweating to the Oldies...fun, but way too advanced, just the warm up kills me... wait a minute! In college, I did Nutri System...worked too...I lost over 50#s... I can't afford to go back on their meal plan...but I am a packrat... I could use their exercise tapes! <little light bulb glowing brightly over my head> They have three workouts, and if I remember right, while the first one is too advanced for me now, it isn't as advanced as SttO...the music sucks, but I can put in a fun CD...that's what I did in college...

Excellent!! I hope you found the tapes and that will work for now!!

I don't have a scale, and can't get one. Does anyone know if you can go to hospitals just to borrow their scales? I can't buy one because one of my roommates has anorexic tendencies and it would aggravate her problem. If not the hospital, any other ideas on where to use a scale? As far as I know, there are no weight loss groups based near where I live.

I'd ask at the hospital, doctor or clinic in your area and explain to them why you can't have a scale and if you could come in once a week or two and be weighed. I bet they would let you. The nutritionist at my doctor told me I could come any time if I wanted to check my weight.

Instead of looking at the whole picture of having to lose 130#s, I'm dividing it up. My first goal is to reach 295. I figure I can lose 20#s. Then I'll go down with 20-30# goals until I reach my goal. Maybe by then, I'll know what I should weigh. LOL. I think I'm supposed to be around 185, but I'm not sure. That's why I have to divide it. I see how much I have to lose, and get overwhelmed and feel like it's futile.

I do the same thing!! Like I said, I started at 310, so that left me like 145 lbs to lose.... that's a whole person and very scarey to look at. So, I am aiming in 10% increments. Just got the first 10% and on my way to the next. Be sure to be journaling and drinking your water, etc.

I am worried about the meds I'm on (all of them), as several make you gain weight, but I think if I just get moving it will improve my overall health.

Still hoping that you can come off them when you lose some weight.

Hi, Trish,

I need to exercise, too. Anything would be better than nothing.

I think 15 minutes twice a day is doable for now. What do you think?

Say 15 minutes of any exercise tape you want in the morning, and a 15

minute walk outdoors in the afternoon or evening.

When you were saying some tapes are too advanced, it made me think of

Powter, who shared in her tape program how she just modified

every routine to fit what she could do. " They would lift their leg up

waist high six times, and I would lift my leg knee high ONCE. "

Her theory is if you are at your max, or near it, it doesn't matter if

you keep up. You still get the benefit.

She is an oddball, but she did take off 140+ pounds and keep it off.

That's perfectly acceptable, say the experts.

I modify every workout I do because of my asthma and arthritis. I've

mentioned many times before how when I do 's Sweatin' tapes I do just

a few songs in the beginning then fast forward to the cool-down.

Sansone tells people on every video to do the steps to your own speed and

ability, too. I've also been buying videos specifically for seniors since I

was in my 30's because the steps are usually slower and easier to do. I've

only been burned once, with 's Platinum Sweat, a video so advanced

that even the professional dancers in the group have problems doing all the

steps.

> She is an oddball, but she did take off 140+ pounds and keep it off.

Well, she did regain a lot of it back *again* a few years ago when she sunk

back into drug addiction and alcoholism, but she's now clean again and on a

vegan food plan, making the rounds as a motivational speaker again, hitting

a few vegetarian gatherings this past summer.

I firmly believe in this also. Doing a modified version to your level of ability is better than nothing - do not hurt yourself. Whomever coined the phrase "no pain, no gain" should have been shot on site.

Thank you all for your support. I did try to do the NS tape, but

didn't last long. At least I tried though, which is a start. Y'all

are right, I need to modify it to what I can do. It just makes me

feel so...stupid when I can't keep up. I guess I'm just being too

hard on myself, and still hearing all the criticisms of the past.

My back started screaming at me so I had to stop, so I will

concentrate on doing back exercises and walking/stretching before

pulling out the tape again. At least I'll be moving and doing

something constructive towards weightloss.

Yesterday, we went shopping and walked a LOT. (We went to Sam's

Club.) I'm not sure which hurt worse, my feet or my back. But it

was definitely exercise! lol

Today, I plan on doing my back exercises and some stretching. I

also hope to go for a walk later. I'm hoping I can get someone to

go with me, but if not, then I hope to have the strength to go by

myself.

I hope everyone has a great day!

You should watch some of ' other videos. The Party one he did

when he turned 50 is so hard that only a handful of the participants

" caught " the moves during rehearsals, which is why you never see the whole

gang exercising at once. I was once on a list with one of the men who

participated, and he let that cat out of the bag. And his newest senior

video, Platinum Sweat, is not only filmed so poorly that you can't see what

they participants are doing but even those who are/were professional dancers

are shown flubbing the steps and getting lost. This one is so unlike his

original senior' video, and the Silver Foxes! That one has

nice, easy to follow steps and is a nice, slow speed, easy enough for

everyone to follow along with of all ages, but you can still work up a good

sweat.

> My back started screaming at me so I had to stop, so I will

When I restarted exercising the other day my sciatica started in again. Each

time I put my right foot down the entire side, from the hip to the toes,

would scream at me. I just have to modify things a bit and take it all nice

and easy until things click back again. Luckily the exercycle doesn't bother

the back or hip so I can do a light video then spend time later on with the

bike for another easy workout.

You should have worn a pedometer or step counter. I know just my regular

grocery store, not even a " super " store, I can rack up 5 miles every time I

go for an order. The one Sam's Club I had ever been in is easily about 4

times as big.

Something to think about! That much walking in a grocery store, who'd

have thought!?!?! Here's something else - my husband worked at a firm

a while back that disigned the heating and air for a certain BIG

discount store chain. He said they don't use humidifiers like a

normal large building would. They count on the people in the building

to produce the needed humidity.

So, if you are going to go walk 5 miles around a big store with no

humidifiers, it would probably be a good idea to take along some

water! You wouldn't go on a hike without water, so make sure to drink

plenty of water when you go shopping, too! :)

Yes, modify - don't feel stupid. Easier and better on your body to do 1/2 or 1/4 the amount and not get injured while you are getting back into the routine of it. Protect that back!! You'll get there...

Good girl! You are right: every little bit of exercise helps. I was

tempted to skip exercise today. I think I'll pull out a tape right now

for fifteen minutes just so I can say I got something in!

First let me say we ALL write novellas from time to time! LOL

Second it's good that you can come up with your own solutions just by writing

Third I have to ask could you put the scale in your room say under the bed? Then take it to the bathroom or kitchen to use it? Maybe without your roomate seeing? Blessed be,

Definitely not a good thing then. Does mom live close to you so you can borrow hers? Otherwise go with the hospital or doctor, weight loss club you mention or in the meantime, measuring tape and how you feel are ok guages too!! You'll be fine - scale is not the only way to measure success.

I'm ok with using the hospital's scale.

I found a weight loss group about 15-20 minutes from where i live.

I haven't decided if I'll join...I need more information about them

first. But I have their website address so I can look up some of

the info I need. I also want to talk to my Mom about them, as if I

remember right, she was a member way back when I was in high

school. She did a lot of dieting back then, and lost a lot of

weight, but she used a lot of different groups and I don't remember

which she was most successful with. And what worked for her may not

for me.

I figure worse case scenario is I have y'all for support and can

measure the weightloss by inches and clothes sizes. <shrug>

Blessed Be,

Ok well I guess introductions are in order my name is I am 27

years old I was

born with severe pnumonia witch damaged my pituitary gland and I spent

half of my life taking human growth hormone in order to acheive my

current height of 5/2 I use to live in ville Illinois but I

got tired of living the small country town life so I joined the

military and I have been in the Army for 6 years I am currently

closing out my 3rd tour in Iraq I have a lot of hobbies that I like

to do to waste time mostly video gaming, guitar playing, traveling,

and photography I have become more and more involved with photography

as an art and trust me it has turned into a costly hobby but I enjoy

it. If you are interested in seeing some of my work, let me know and I can

E-Mail you the website addy where I have it displayed. As for traveling some of

my recent travel endeavors have taken me to Naples Italy, Nepal, and Ibiza

Spain, once I get out of Iraq this time I will be heading back to Baumholder

Germany to finish out my contract I plan on spending about a month photographing

and cataloging some of the concentration camps there like Auschwitz and Dachau

along with some of the other famous sites around Germany...

Now dont get me wrong it may sound like I have had a pretty easy life

but it is what I made of it ..yes I have to deal almost on a daily

basis the cajolling remarks about my heigth the constant harrasment

for being short but I have just decided that the people that do this

are human and it is human nature to shun or outcast that witch is not

the norm...it does get tiring but in the end I want to say that I

lived my life and didnt spend it pent up somewhere hiding from the

public that criticizes me

Thanks for your time and understanding
