Guest guest
first, let me confess to having been a bad post-op. not only did i drop off the board and out of sight, but i think my 1 year was the last time i checked in post-op. i have just been so damned healthy since my surgery that doctor stuff just never crosses my mind. the only time i have seen a doc since my staple removal was one late night trip to the emergency room for what turned out to be a kidney infection, although i had thought it was a muscle spasm. this means that i have never had my blood levels done since the surgery -- bad, i know! so fast forward to 2.5 years post-op and here i am pregnant at age 42. i had my first ob appointment this week and there are 2 things that concerned me. the first is that my ob said that the only malabsorption issue pregnant women have is with iron, and he will test my blood for iron, but does not feel the need to test for anything else, even after i explained about the surgery a second time. the other issues stems from the first, and that is the fact that we are supposed to take 3 multis a day. i told him that and he said, " well, i want you taking one prenatal and one prenatal only, your surgeon doesn't even know you're pregnant, does he? " so here i am fixing that and telling you, dr. r, that i'm preggers and asking your specific advice on these two issues. also, for any post-ops that are or have been preggers, did any of you run into this kind of resistance from your ob and how did you handle it? please don't bother suggesting that i find another ob, i had some insurance issues and couldn't get in to see a doc for a whole 5 weeks after i peed on the stick and i had to make a lot of calls to find a doc i felt comfortable with who accepts my arizona state health insurance (all i have right now, cuz my family just went into partnership in a landscaping company i am running, part of the partnership agreement was that we would all hold off on group helath insurance, it was signed 2 days before i got the good news.) and with the exception of his resistance in this one area, i really liked him otherwise, great bedside manner and sense of humor, he has been delivering for 25 years, which gives me a great sense of security in a high risk pregnancy and he delivers at the hospital that has one of the 2 best neonatal icus and neonatalologists in the phoenix area. thanks. monica 8-31-04 312/150/157 pre-op/pre-preg/preggers --------------------------------- The fish are biting.
