I just thought I would share our first outing in 's DOC

band. I'm sure most of you can relate. It was interesting. My

husband and I handled it better than I thought we would. My

observation of the reactions were as follows:

50+ age group -- Mostly mortified. They behaved as if something must

be terribly wrong with . I know most in this generation does'nt

have a clue what the band is for. So it didn't bother me that much.

25-50 age group -- Curious and somewhat knowledgeable. I overheard a

couple of men talking about it. One knew what it was for and

explained to other that it was because we didn't rotate his head like

he had his daughter. I wanted to go over and scream that we had

repositioned 's head more than probably anybody in that mall. It

was because of Tort not merely repositioning. I kept my composure and

simply left the play area. Several salesclerks were very interested

in it. One was really funny. She sounded as though she was the

paranoid type. She wanted to know where she could get one, if we just

bought it at the store. Once we explained to her that it was much more

than that. She said she had never heard of it and was going to go

home and check her children, just in case. She was afraid she had

missed it. Her youngest child is 8 years old. :-)

20-25 age group -- Curious. The two people that asked us about it

thought it was to protect his head. From what, I don't know.

Children -- Curious and envious. Several thought it was " cool " and

wanted one. We decorated it with animals, so they all loved it.

Overall it was a pretty good experience. The best part was that

now gets more people noticing how cute he is. Most people used to

just pass him as though he was just another baby in a stroller.

I do have a few questions for those experienced DOC band parents...

1) Do you ever take it off for more than just an hour a day?

goes to Gymboree class once a week for 45 minutes. I plan to take it

off for the class. Will it hurt anything? I think I read that some

people have taken it off just to get a break from it.

2) Will his hair rub off on the non-flat spots? It already looks

like it might. This isn't a big deal to me, I was just wondering.

3) How soon did you notice improvement? I read that we should see

something by 2 weeks. Did anyone see any earlier?

Thanks,

's Mommy
