Re: Low Amniotic Fluid

From my experience, low amniotic fluid CAN lead to tort and therefore to

plagio. One of my twins had low fluid causing him to be " stuck " on my

uterine wall. He was in this position for several weeks without movement

and when he was born (premature) he showed signs of tort. Other health

issues were more important, so we didn't start treating the tort until about

6 months of age. At that time there was noticeable plagio. We corrected

the tort with PT and the plagio with a DOC band.

I don't know of any one place where there is research...I really never

looked. It makes sense that a lack of movement caused by inutero constraint

(not having enough fluid) could set a baby up for poor muscle development.

Best of luck with your son's treatment.

Just wanted to share my experience on this too: although I did not have low amniotic fluid, was 9 lbs. 13 oz. (we call him the 10 pounder) and 21.5 inches long....so a very big baby that had no more room to move, and to top it off they let me go a week late. He was definetly cramped and this caused some inutero plagio as well as tort. The plagio became secondary to the tort as the tort made the situation worse (favored one side). Just think, i was already "cramping" his style at this age! ;)

AND- they couldn't get him out he was so stuck, so they pulled his arm and it tore the already tight muscle, causing it to tear and created a huge hematoma (blood mass or lump) on his neck muscle. He's doing well now, glad this is almost behind us! I'm glad we are finally getting to the point of "looking back" on all this and, not laughing, but glad the hard road is almost over (we hope!).

Oh - your story made me shudder - how difficult that must have been!!!

I can't believe they let you go a week late - that is CRAZY!! Wow - what a

difficult labor that must have been for you - then top it off with your baby

being born injured! It sounds like you have it all together now and you

always have such a positive outlook in your posts - you must be a strong

person.

Marci,

Boy, have I got you fooled! Tears, tears, weakling, emotional rollercoaster, that's me according to my husband! I can be tough, I think "bitch" might be on my Doc's computer screen too (my Scorpio blood comes out on an "as needed" basis :).

Yeah, it was tough. I made the mistake of telling them I didn't want a c section, so in the 23rd hour when I begged for it, they were like cheerleaders, no way, you can do it! To make matters worse BOTH epidurals failed when I needed it most! I was upset that they knew he was going to be big and they still had me wait (they thought 8lbs. 7 oz). a week over. When I got to the hospital, I was 4 cm and the nurse (after twice being sent home telling me it was false labor) acted like she was doing me a favor admitting me! They said the contractions were, her words "crap" and they didn't know why I was in so much pain. When they finally put the internal monitor inside of me, it shot off the charts, and THEN they believed me! Oh, well, water under the bridge now. Next time, if there is a next time, I will be in control for sure, or Blair will start floating people around the room and spewing green gobs at 'em! That'll get their attention! Thanks for your kind words :o)

Jeez - what a moron!! Was that person a mom? That is a pretty stupid thing to

say to a woman in labor - she is lucky she wasn't asking what hit her as she

lay on the floor looking up at the ceiling!! LOL

I'm with you on that one Kelli! I think a few years to "forget" the pain might be in order! is still tall and skinny too, with big feet! He's 9 1/2 months with a 51/2 shoe size and 30" long! He'd be great at scuba diving with those fins!

OMG , I know the pain you felt!!! My first eppy

didn't work either and didn't get my second one till 3

hours before Em finally made her appearance... Yep,

23 LONNNGGGG hours here... OMG, it was aweful, but I

got lucky... my second eppy worked, and I slept while

she finally decide to progress down for birthing. She

presented face sideways, and her poor little face was

so off, one ear was down and one eye smaller...

Yep... tort, but they didn't say a word. Still

haven't had a dr diagnos that one, you all are the

one's who informed me of it. She was 8 lbs, 12 oz's,

21.5 inches long and a 14.5 inch head... way above on

everything. She didn't come out looking like a teeny

little baby, she was 3 months old already...lol.

(j/k). i still to this day, don't know if I want to

try that " Woman " experience again... yikes! She's

still tall and skinny...lol.
