" I choose to be grateful. " As those words roll off your tongue, and as

you feel it deeply within your heart, you create ripples of gratitude

that cannot help but to return to you exactly what you are feeling.

This, friends, is a masterful mantra, and one can extend it further

and say " I choose to be grateful for _______. " And you can insert

whatever comes to mind. Because you are the chooser, you are the

decider. You are the one that affirms, " This is my reality " through

your choices, and you reaffirm those choices through your reactions.

So what, then, are you grateful for? You get to decide! It's better to

start small than not to start at all. There may be a particular flower

in your garden that you are drawn to, and you may gaze at that flower,

and touch it, and love it, and perhaps feel a sense of peace. You've

just said, " I choose to be grateful " through your love for that

flower. That flower (let us suppose it is a violet) is there in your

garden because you wanted it to be there. It is your garden. It is

your violet. Wherever you find yourself in the moment is where you

have chosen to be.

Your actions prove where you are, mentally and emotionally. The

quality of your actions do this. If you are emotionally in the dumps,

it is because you have forgotten to feel gratitude. This is why

quality is so important, and not quantity. Because it matters not how

many times one affirms that they are grateful, but what really matters

is the inner quality that is expressed. You can only express what you

actually feel.

Whenever you find yourself in need of a solution, and you happen to

remember that you have the power of choice, you can find the clarity

that you seek through beginning where you are. Where else can you

begin, anyhow? You can acknowledge where you are, mentally and

emotionally, and you can forgive yourself for getting in whatever

predicament you find yourself in. Whatever it is, it really doesn't

matter, because you have the power to remove yourself from it through

choosing something, anything, to be grateful for. And you go from

there. Because when you forgive, you are grateful. When you love

yourself despite your past actions, you are grateful and you are free.
