Guest guest
Hi Friends.. It's been years since I¹ve posted to the list or sent any updates... But I recently started losing weight again, and it's been so fun, I thought I¹d send an update... I had my MGB in NC in April of 2003. I¹ve since had several plastic surgeries and life has been grand.. Never have I felt better in my own skin my whole life. I started my journey at 233, and lost 90 lbs. I stayed at a 90 lb loss for 6.5 years, very consistently. I¹m amazed at what a great difference there is between the MGB and the traditional RNY. I know several people who went the RNY route, and they either never lost all of their weight, or they gained a significant amount back in very short order. My weight is extremely stable between 140 and 145... And although I always dreamed of that 100 lb ³magical² mark, I¹ve been beyond satisfied with my success. In November I came down with H1N1 and lost about 5 lbs. I was VERY surprised when the weight did not come back when I was feeling better AND I¹ve since lost another 5lbs without even trying, and kept it off, reaching my all time goal 7 years later of 133~!!!!! I am completely amazed at how the MGB keeps on working... I¹ve seen many posts about people who had good Œol ³agent orange² at the beginning, but eventually went away. I can say, if I eat too fatty of a meal, my body still gets rid of the fat immediately, and although sometimes not pleasant, I am extremely grateful. My only problems (if you can even call them that) have been that I cannot tolerate milk and every once in a while, if I eat too close to bedtime, I will have reflux in the middle of the night. Neither one of these issues is a big deal to me. I just have to be really good about taking my tums before bedtime. I also have to admit (but would NEVER advocate) that some of the ³taboo² things are not a problem for me. I drink iced coffee almost every day. And I still love my diet coke (about 1 a day), but I let it go flat before I drink it. The risk in doing these things are ulcers, but I must really have an iron stomach, because they cause me no problems whatsoever. I take liquid vitamins in the morning and notice a marked difference between the liquid vs. the capsules in terms of my energy level. I follow up the liquid vitamins with the standard multi vitamin 2 more times during the day. I have had anemia issues, so I take an iron supplement as well (the only one I could find that didn¹t upset my stomach is Ferro-Sequels, which is time released, but seems to work really well for me). My jeans are now falling off me and I¹ve had to buy new ones (such a burden!!!), and now wear a size 5 consistently... Many thanks to Dr. R for all he has done for me. Not a day goes by that I am not grateful for my MGB and I have never regretted it for one second~!! Blessings to all on your journey...
