Guest guest
nna, Wow - you had such a GREAT experience with your team of specialists. I am totally excited for you and for Skye especially. It sounds like your drs were very, very thorough and extremely knowledgable about plagio. I'm just so impressed that I hardly know what to say except HOORAY!!!!! It is so awesome that Skye is going to get the help she needs and that cranio has been ruled out. I'm so happy for you, Skye and Dale. Please keep us posted (as I know you will) on how the casting goes. It really looks like you guys are on the road to a rounder head! Thanks for sharing the very, very good news! Marci (Mom to ) Oklahoma
Guest guest
Hi Everyone Well I have news on Skye. We saw the specialists today and after 3 1/2 very long hours and 8 Dr's and specialists later she has been diagnosed with moderately severe plagio. On a scale of 1 - 10 they have put her at a 7-8 in severity. There is still a very small question mark over her lambdoid suture fusing early but is definately open at both ends. They think that her plates are pushing together which is why the suture looks like it may be closed. From here we are going to see the orthotist to be cast for a band - which is similar to the DOC. It is an active band. the ortho actually went to cranial tech last year to find out how to make them (materials casting etc.) We saw 2 nuerosurgeons and 4 different plastic surgeons who all agreed that there is no way on this earth that her head would ever round out on its own!! Because by the time we are cast and get the band on her she will be almost 8 calender mths they have said that we will not get 100% correction - they have said somewhere between 50 & 80%. It is such a relief!! She also has mild tort and we have been told to do some exercises to help with that. We are so happy that she does not have Cranio but Dr Lewandowsi did say to us that she should have been referred to the Cranio facial team much earlier. We were also told that the ped we saw 2 mths ago could have referred us directly to the ortho and that he knew that. The team were not very happy that we had been told that it would round out by itself - in the words of the Dr's we saw some of whom are THE BEST in Australia plagio that is any more than mild will not round out on its own but when the child grows a THICK head of hair and wear it down - not tied back the hair will disguise the flatness. So there we have it finally some Dr's who agree with the parents. The doctors and specialists were all very thorough not once did they tell us we were concerned over nothing. We were also told that if we did not get it treated that further down the line we could possibly have problems as not only will her skull grow crooked but all the inside of her head would be misalligned also. The condition is cosmetic at the moment but left untreated becomes more serious. So finally we have answers and treatment for our gorgeous daughter from a team that Dale and I have nothing but praise for. Collectivley this team have many years of experience and are very knowledgable - they even commended us on the research we had done - telling us we had done the right thing. Anyway bye for now - from us and our soon to be banded baby girl Regards nna & Dale Brisbane Australia _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
