Guest guest
Iuzbella, Welcome to the group and I'm glad you found us!! Yes, we have people here who have treated older babies with a band and have had good success. Changes in head shape with the band occur as baby has growth spurts. As the baby gets older the growth spurts slow down. You could get some correction at this age, but the results will be slower and possibly not 100%. I'm glad that you are able to coordinate with the NICband people in NY. I hope it all works out and please let us know how the process proceeds. This group is a GREAT source of answers, support and friendship - I hope you will stick with us! Marci (Mom to ) Oklahoma
Guest guest
Hello everyone, I am new to your group. I found the site searching for infor on plagiocephaly. My son is 13 months old, and I am a first time mom. I agree that ignorance is one of the reasons for plagio. My son was born by csection, 8 1/2 lbs. He was in neonatal for 3 days due to his sugar levels being really low. He also had a lot of reflux. At the hospital the nurse told me to roll a towel and place it under the sheets in the crip, so that I would place him a little to the side. I did exactly that, but it never occured to me to switch sides. I always placed him on his right side. When he was 2 1/2 months old, I started working again. It was then that I noticed how slanted his face was, and a bulging spot on his forehead. Then I noticed the ears were kind of misaligned. My mother in law told me to start laying him on the other side. I did, and it did get a little better. In each and every visit to the ped I commented on my baby head. He said, like many other I have read, that it would round out as the baby grew. It wasn't until I read an article on Baby Talk magazine that I realized I needed to get help. My sons condition is considered mild, but if there is anything I can do to reduce the asymmetry I will. My question to you all would be if there is anyone who has has a child this old (13 months) have the treatment. Right now I live in Puerto Rico, and the treatment here is unheard of. I am coordinating with Nic Band in New York to have the casting and fitting, and then have an orthotist here follow up. I wil greatly appreciate any comments.
