Guest guest
Sometimes things happen that so amaze me that I have to stop to pinch myself to see if i am dreaming. This morning while having my morning coffee at Mcs a Mother and little girl ,about 4,came and sat down in a booth not too far from me.After awhile i noticed that both of them were signing.I couldn't tell if both were deaf or just the Mom or the little girl.Normally I would start a conversation but this time I didn't and i let them go.I felt bad about it all day.I decided to take a walk to get it out of my mind. I walked over to Once Upon a Child.I was walking through the isles of clothes racks and litterally bumped into a young mother holding a little toddler. We looked at each other and said " HI " .At the same time we said " I know you " but we couldn't place from where. So of course I asked her if she was familiar with the cochlear implant. Her face lit up and she remembered me ..her little girl was implanted 3 yrs ago and i had mentored them.Corine had lost her hearing with meningitis..Her mother remembers asking me what apple sounded like and she said i told her " APPLE " .Corine is doing fantastic..is mainstreamed in public school and is in 2nd grade. Now..was that meeting to make me feel better about not telling that little girl who I saw at Mcs or was it to show me that I should have told that little girl so that she might hear 3 yrs from now?I know now that I won't let another little girl OR big girl get away without trying to help them.
