You might want to check the website that was sent to me by my audi and which I printed out for my PCP. http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm5231a5.htm Hope this helps..I advise that you ask your surgeon or the surgical team where you will have the implant done. Also some places may have to order the vaccine if they don't keep it on hand. Pam

I'm taking a leap of faith based on everyone's very positive opinion of him and his work. Since it costs over $600 every time I fly to Seattle, I'm willing to go on good faith for now. I have three trips to Seattle coming up in the next three months. Pam (also a nervous Nellie in Anchorage Alaska) :-)
Guest guest
Well, not to worry... I've called my ENT a couple of times, but he didn't actually return my calls. Though we have a great time when I come for my appointments with him, as we have great rapport, I've learned to just be patient and save those " worried sick but perfectly fine + healthy " questions for in person at these appointments. I just figured that he's very busy doing surgery and seeing other patients who are much (ahem) worse off, medically, I can bide my time, and he's probably so delighted to do these cochlear implants because he's making people BETTER off than they used to be. I find this CI Hear discussion threads much more interesting, and I can play off idiotic questions here and it is guaranteed that someone, somewhere, will answer my question, which I no longer have to ask my ENT next time. Good luck on your upcoming surgery! Guest guest
My doctor told me that anti-pneumococcal vaccine is the one to take care of the type of bacteria menigitis that could arise from the implanting the CI array in the cochlea. The menigitis shot is another type of shot normally not needed for CI implantation. This subject even confused my nurse for while when I came for my menigitis shot two weeks before surgery. > > I'm really getting confused now too, I'm under the assumption that > this discussion is about two different shots, so I googled Pneumonia > shot thinking that this is a flu shot and that Pneumococcal was a > menigitis vaccination below is what I found.
