Guest guest
Hi Stefan, Just wanted to say welcome and add to the rest that try to find the cause of the misshapen head of your son. Some can get that way from too much time spent on the back of it, inutero pressure, etc., but for my son, it was a secondary problem that stemmed from torticollis, a tight neck muscle that pulled his head into a tilt posture, and he would only turn his head to the right, which caused a flat right back of the head. If your child shows signs of tilting, or a tight neck muscle, have it checked out asap because you need to battle the cause in order for the effect to be treated as well- this means physical therapy to resolve the tight neck muscle. Just wanted to throw that in just so you'll be well informed. ' Mom
Guest guest
Hello and welcome to the group. My first advice would be to see if you can get in to see a specialist sooner then 3 weeks. If you can, try to get on a waiting list in case they get a cancellation. Could you tell us a little more about your son's condition? Is his head flat on the side or the back? Does he have torticollis (a tightening in the neck muscle)? Have you been evaluated by your pediatrician or are you seeking the advice of a specialist on your own? How long have you noticed that his head was flat? Is there any facial assymetry? Sorry for the list of questions, but knowing that information will help the group to offer better advice or suggestions - and we definately want to help you!!! As far as it being to late - NO WAY!!! Six months is a good time to start. Begin by repositioning him when he sleeps so that he is on the side that is NOT flat. Make sure that he gets as much tummy time when he is awake as he will tolerate. Try using an " exersaucer " type of toy and/or a doorway " johnny jump-up " type of toy to minimize time on his back. When you see the specialist he/she may suggest the use of a helmet or band to help gently reshape your baby's head - most (but not all) of the moms here use one of these devices. He/she may also suggest a CT scan to rule out craniosynostosis which is the premature fusing of the sutures in the head. This condition is less common then plagiocephaly, but is quite serious and requires surgery. If you wouldn't mind sharing a little more information about your son's condition we might be able to better help you. This group is a great source of advice, support and friendship - you should find all the help you need. Hope to hear more from you soon. Hopefully one or both will respond. If not we can contact them and ask them to provide some information for you - I think they would both be able and willing to help.
