Guest guest
Joni, I am post-ling and totally prefer the BTE! I continue to say that if you know you want a BTE, you're best off just to get 2 BTEs and start right out to learn on the BTE. S. upstate NY CII 5/01 BTE with tmic ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ----- Original Message ----- From: Jonikt4@... eventually the bte will be as good as bwp if it is nt already. i am curious though, if the bwp is more popular with the later deafened group and the bte with the prelingual deaf becuase some of us we already have had to deal with bwp for first 20 of our physically active lives. since choosing a bte and /or bwp is a somewhat of an emotional one, why can't we just say it s just a personal preference, esp since the audies are saying the bte and bwp are equivalent in power, and not get into saying bte or bwp is better... just as we avoid the brand ci wars.. joni
Guest guest
These are all good points. I hope this doesn't sound like we are disputing one another. It just shows us that we are all individuals and have preferences. I will definitely use the 3G after I have tried differnent programs on the BWP but I do sometimes find the BWP convenient and I'm really glad I have the option to use both if I want to. Guest guest
Good points Joni. Here is what I think now on the BWP vs BTE. Who was it , who said she never would have known unless she tried the BWP? Well, who would have? If we did not know, and chose the BTE, we would not be distracted by that possibility, and therefore we would work on getting the best map possible wiht the 3G. Friend of mine just got activated bilaterally, 3Gs. He will never know what the BWP could do so he is going to focus on getting the most out of the 3Gs. That to me is a wise plan. Not to wonder if..... But to know the 3G will do what he requires of it. I still have my BWP. Its been in the drawer for ages. And it will probably wind up as an antique just like my old HA, which I last wore in the 60s. So if people want a BTE, go for it I say. If you have not already experienced the BWP, then you wont be disapointed. See, we didnt have such a jewel as the 3G that long ago. Now we do so why complicate things? Yes, there are differences between the two and that is exactly my point. When/if I get my 2nd CI, I wont hesitate to get the 3G. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* No matter where you go, there you are. --Buckaroo Banzai & Gimlet (Guide Dawggie) Portland, Oregon N24C 3G 8/2000 Hookup rlclark77@... http://home.comcast.net/~rlclark77/
Guest guest
Joni, my BWP just sits unused. I will never use it unless my BTE breaks down, and if I had a spare BTE I'd be so much happier!! I am in upstate NY. Where are you? Heading back to work now...am on lunch hour... S. Guest guest
Well..maybe that is why this is an easy decision for me. I have two 3G's and a BWP plus a certificate for another processor when I'm ready to get it. For a year, I've been trying to decide if I wanted another BWP but keep thinking I'll save the certificate for the next upgrade which I figure will happen before the certificate expires. If it doesn't - I'll have another decision to make. I still have two years on the certificate. Alice > Joni, my BWP just sits unused. Guest guest
i have both BWP and BTE i was hooked up first with my bWP because the BTE wasn't out yet ... another month to wait i love the box and thought i would never change but one day wearing the BTE changed my mind i hooked my box to my jeans and i never remember when it was time to go to the bathroom i almost yanked my head off because of the wire from the box to my ear the sounds were slightly different ... nothing that would make me go back to the BWP also there are many more dials and configuration on the BWP it seems at times i would be playing spin the dial trying to get the best sounds rather than concentrating on learning how to hear the BTE is so easy to put off and on and easy to adjust when needed so i have a BWP sitting in it's case some where around here susan
Guest guest
Sharon, We will try to stick around. LOL I did not mind the BWP at the time. But I dont miss the wires sticking to my neck. If one drives a VW Beetle all the time, its fine. There is nothing better than the Beetle. But get in a Jaguar... Different story. LOL *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* Did you ever stop to think and forget to start again? & Gimlet (Guide Dawggie) Portland, Oregon N24C 3G 8/2000 Hookup rlclark77@... http://home.comcast.net/~rlclark77/
Guest guest
>>I also love using the auxiliary jack to the BWP processor for my ipod. How many other people can listen to an ipod without wearing the earbuds? The sound just goes right through the BWP system.<< Can you explain what you mean by this? I'm also able to use an adaptor with my 3G to listen to my MP3/CD player without ear buds or headphones. The sound goes directly from the adaptor right into my 3G clear as a bell! I would assume the same thing would be true for iPods. Do iPods work differently in this respect? (i.e. you must use ear buds to hear any sound?) Guest guest
I meant how many ~hearing~ people can listen to music without ear buds or headphones. Correct, any implantee with an auxiliary jack on their BWP or BTE can listen to music directly through the processor.
