Guest guest
Well, then what do you do if there isn't any way to get the help you need, to get the meds, and to pay for the Dr. appointments.????? Aren't you forced to do things you normally wouldn't do??? I think you should rethink what you have said. This isn't a parent talking to a child who has done something wrong and the child says, WELL HE MADE ME DO IT. Not everyone knows how they got this disease and None of us should be made to feel like we are lepers or nobody's, because of it. We are forced to say and do things we normally wouldn't do, BECAUSE, We have this disease!!!!!! That's My OPINION !!!!!!! Irish

Guest guest
As I said before maybe you should think before you write some things. The comment of " No on is forced to do anything, " really Pissed me off. I am not saying you haven't gone through any hoops but you seem to be able to deal with them (or sound like you are) just fine. Well, guess I am not that strong or maybe I don't like what is happening to people who have this disease, not just the health problems but the way society is NOT handling this disease. So therefore I speak out about it and I consider it good energy to be able to get it out and then try and find out what can be done to change it. This board was meant for that as well... As for not realizing about the response you would get... Well, I hope I opened up your eyes to the fact it takes all kinds of people to make up this world and I guess we both just met another one!!!! Guest guest
Bob..... There are many unfair practices everywhere in the world and in life. Maybe some day someone will figure out a way to eliminate at least some of them. Two older friends of mine (who have since died), wanted to get married, but couldn't afford to. So they had a big wedding and lived out their days as " husband and wife " .... My husband and I were two of only about five people who knew that it was a wedding in spirit only (no license) and why. But it bothered Blanche until the day she died that she was " forced " to do such a thing. I miss them both greatly. They were two of the nicest, kindest, most giving people I have ever known. Guest guest
If you choose to look and think about problems well of course they are there. I was diagnosed with 100% disability with PTSD from Viet Nam. It took not all that much to show I had a problem for in the normal way of things I was different. Gee different? Anyway my point is the more energy you see as a problem the more energy of that problem it becomes. From my years of dealing with the VA only to find out a couple years ago that I may have contracted Hep C from surgery over there I could be very pissed. I don't and will not. Guest guest
Gee I did not think anyone would react this way. I was trying to say that I went through many hoops. I have finally understood what conscious energy is and reactionary consciousness is. I choose to take what I've learned and pass it on to others. Guest guest
Irish & .... I think I touched this off by using the word " forced. " It is not worth anyone's time to pursue it, though I thank you Irish for defending my use of the word. Perhaps it will end this if I say that in order to be recognized as being married, which was important to them, they decided to have a ceremony and invite their friends and celebrate. They would much have preferred to do it legally, but had they done that, they would not have had enough money to live, even as sparingly as they did. Just as a matter of record, they both gave at least 20 hrs a week of their time as volunteers at a local hospital despite the fact that they both had significant heart disease. Now, can we just let it go..... thanks... Merril
Guest guest
What I hear on this list are good people who have real (not perceived) problems. While there's something to be said about positive attitude, there are some situations that a positive attitude simply can't change. But instead of rolling over, these folks are actively seeking solutions. It all sounds pretty healthy to me. (Doesn't mean we can't complain now and then!) I have sent many letters to the GOVERNOR, MAYOR, PUBLIC ADVOCATE, HEALTH DEPT,PRESIDENT AND HIS WIFE, since she is running for Senate in NY where I happen to live ... and many others and the only one who has replied was from the Mayor's office. Last night on the NBC news at 11:00 PM they had a small spot about Hep-c and that no one knows they have it till it has shown symptoms, which for some is usually to late. I am a firm believer in telling all, about this disease for maybe then someone will hear and actually really try and do something about the money that's needed for the research... Well, if you can tell me the address for the site you mentioned I would be grateful and pass it on too. Take Care, Irish
Guest guest
Was it because of losing disability or SS benefits that they didn't get married? I know a lady who had wanted to get married but was told she would lose her SS benefits so she didn't do it either. It doesn't seem right to me either. Somebody should make them change it. The cliche about there being more rights and priveledges for criminals and law breakers is certainly true here. Guest guest
Yes but we shouldn't be forced to do something immoral, should we? Thats what I'm saying. If we start lying here than whats to stop us from lying on our income taxes, etc. It seems to be a wrong approach. Guest guest
-its not a matter of looking for problems. Its a matter of finding a solution to the problem that does exist. Lack of income is a problem and you don't have to look for it. Bills every month will keep reminding us. I have not been applying much energy to this problem for about a year now and it hasn't resolved itself. Burying our heads in the sand and hoping it will go away isn't working. The problem hits us in our bellies where it hurts. Providing for our families is a real problem. How do we do it now that we are disabled. Maybe calling the local news agency would help. Present our joint concerns and lack of help from our Gov. If we make it an issue maybe we will be heard and get some good response. Food for thought doesn't feed our family!! Guest guest
OK Irish-don't get your Irish up! Get it. I'm Irish also so I can say that. I agree with you. Its not right or fair but that seems to way our country is headed. If we make our voices heard than maybe we will get some action. That seems to be the way this works. Lets draw up some type of letter and send it to our news agencys, Senators, Congressmen, etc until we get some satisfaction. I know there is a web site that has a form letter already about this issue. I sent my own version out to 4 Gov. agencies and did hear back from them-they said they were lookin into it-so I guess I need to keep pressing them and the news media. Hep-C is making headlines-it was on 60 mins. (or nightline) 2 nights ago. Lets put this into positive action rather than negative-is that what you were trying to say ? Guest guest
Bob, I am kinda of new to the group. I subscribed for a while and then decided to unsubscribe all my lists for a while...well, I'm back and just wanted to say in regards to the SSI issue that my husband and I had to divorce after we had our third child because she was born with a heart defect and had several strokes. She is 15 with the mind of a 7 yr old and blind in one eye. They wouldn't give her SSI unless I was a single mom. Now that my oldest son moved out (he turned 18 last Sept.) my daughter receives a whopping $43 dollars a month. Unbelievable......the one gentleman who takes care of my case told me to keep up on it even though its a low $ amount because she will get more when she is 18. It is hard to believe that they really believe 43 dollars will buy food, clothes and shelter for her. I have hep C and work part time and my " husband " is a blue collar worker. Just doesn't make sense. Thanks for listening!
Guest guest
, it is a shame the American people have to go to these extremes to get the help we need. I am truly sorry for your daughter and You and your husband. But to do all this and only get $43.00 a month, that's an insult. I have seen many people with less get more and that's what bothers me the most. How the ones who really need it get practically nothing or nothing at all. Did the Man who is working your case tell you what you are supposed to do till your daughter turns 18?? I know it isn't his fault he is following his rules, just wish they would change the rules. I am still trying to get help and have called places and we are going to apply again for the Medicaid services, Not disability just some medical help... have to try all I know how to do. I am trying to be positive but there are days when it seems impossible. Hard to smile and feel like this... Have to do what you have to do Right!!!!!
