Guest guest
Is there anyone out there that has their baby banded because of bracheocephaly (flat spot right on the back of the head that causes wide and short head)? What kind of improvement have you noticed with the helmet and what criteria have you or your ortho used to determine full correction? My ortho said that it would be subjective, but I don't really know what a normal baby head is supposed to look like now. I feel like all I do now is look at people's heads. I am obsessed with head shapes and before this I never even noticed head shapes. If anyone has any before and after pics of their bracheo baby that would be really helpful. Thank You,
Guest guest
, It is my understanding that helmet/band therapy is very effective for treating brachiocephaly. Usually when the flatness occurs across the back of the head there is not facial assymetry. The facial assymetry is harder to correct then the flatness so helmet/band therapy should be very effective for brachio. I would also imagine that if it is caught early enough then repositioning by putting the baby on the left and right side alternating and increasing tummy and upright time would be quite effective. My daughter had flatness on one side and some bad facial and ear assymetry. We used a locally made helmet that worked quite well. She was 9 months when we started and repositioning was not an option as she was already walking and was extremely mobile!! Good luck and I hope this helps.
