Guest guest
/Jody, Yes the intubation does give you a sore throat/itchy, we explain this when patients ask the next day after surgery why their throat itches. This is common with many surgeries. When you said getting a cold and cough we assumed it was a cold and cough. Now we will know to ask if it is a cough or just sore/itchy/dry. And yes it does go away. Nina " D. I mentioned it to Nina when I got back home and she said Dr. A told her to tell me that a cough is an indication of the body trying to get rid of something so I thought I was getting a cold, too. But then when I remembered that the month before I felt the same circular scratch in the back of my throat and the same coughing I mentioned it to someone at work I think. And they said it must be the anesthesia. But I didn't think of the circular scratch till today...it was even in the same spot, go figure. So I am convinced that it was the intubation that did it, and the coughing was due to the irritation caused by the intubation (scratch in my throat). The coughing worried me cause I thought I would make my band slip. The soreness in my belly was aggravated by the coughing, too. But I can assure you, that the coughing does go away about a week after surgery. I think Nina should mention this to the Doctor because so many of us are experiencing this and this way they can inform future patients so they don't worry about it. I feel better knowing...I was thinking I was getting a cold or something. ...thanks, Jody RE: Re: MY first FILL... experience I think you're right Liz. I actually felt a little scratch in the shape of a circle in the back of my mouth close to my throat so I think we are on to something! The tickle was what drove me crazy cause it made me cough! It started the day I left the hospital and lasted approx 5 days. I figured it was a reaction from the tube put down my throat during surgery.
